Everyday Granola

Back on this post I mentioned that I have two granolas that I do. This one is my other granola. It's "everyday" granola because it is so much easier than the fancy granola. The basic steps are the same, of course, but the other one has a million ingredients to gather and measure. This one has few ingredients and makes a much smaller batch so the whole process is way streamlined. I hadn't made it in quite awhile and was actually pretty surprised and pleased and how good and how easy this is. I think it's going to become a more regular thing around here for awhile.
The funnest part has been seeing how much Dieter adores it. He eats it dry and is so passionate a bout it he gets it all over his face, his hands and the floor. Who knew a 3 year old would love granola so much? It warms a mama's heart, truly. Dang, that boy is cute. (I tried to get a picture of his granola encrusted face but he was having no part of it).
Here's the recipe:

Everyday Granola

In a large mixing bowl, combine:
4 c. rolled oats
1/4 c. sesame seeds
1/2 c. sunflower seeds
1/4 c. toasted wheat germ
1 c. chopped almonds
1/2 t. salt

Mix in:
1/2 c. honey
1/3 c. vegetable oil
1 t. vanilla

Spread on a shallow rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 325F for about 40 minutes or until golden brown, stirring every 10 minutes [mine took less than 40 minutes]. When done, remove from the oven and mix with:

1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. toasted coconut

Sounds delicious! I want to make it next week! May I ask a stupid question? I'm not really sure what "rolled oats" it the same as Quaker Oatmeal oats (the old fashioned kind)? Or should I be looking somewhere else specific for rolled oats? I always see premade granola...but never the plain oats to make your own...what brand do you use/recommend? Thanks, Mary Beth!
