love, stargirl

I just spent a delicious several days reading Stargirl and Love, Stargirl. Oh my goodness, how I love these books. Have you read them? They are all about being yourself, and the complexities, or not, of doing that. Stargirl, the girl, is a true "original"--I guess we all are, aren't we?--but she's not afraid to show it. How come it takes some of us so long to embrace who we are and to feel comfortable being ourselves? Stargirl has a lot to teach us, I think. Now I'm feeling all bereft without a book; do you know that feeling? I'm on the lookout for my next good read . . .

I need a book for Lou--it is good for an 11-year old?

I read stargirl to my 6th graders one year and we all loved it. It's great to find a book that both the boys and girls like. I haven't read the ohter book, but will have to pick it up at the library. Another favorite we read that year was 'things not seen' http://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/Things-Not-Seen.html
It appealed to the boys a lot, but has a good female character too.

Love, stargirl too :) Children's classics I'm finding so sweet and mellow at the moment. And easy to get secondhand. Frances Hodgson Burnett, E. Nesbit, Anne of Green Gables, I Capture the Castle, etc.

Put Stargirl on the wish list.

I wish I had the confidence and the self assurance as a girl as I do now. Took a good thirty some years to get it - I am thankful I was able to capture it at least by now.

I can totally relate!
I hate that feeling when you are done with a oh-so-wonderful book.

I'll keep in mind these two.
Thanks for sharing.
