As planned, we drove up to the mountains today for fresh air and a picnic. It takes about an hour and 15 minutes to get up here. It is so interesting to be driving through low scrubby chaparral most of the way and then to find this conifer forest at the top of the ridge. I couldn't believe how much cooler the air felt up there. It was delightful to be amongst pine trees and feel pine needles under our feet. There were lots of rocks for the boys to play on and I happily read a book (an actual book, not my Kindle or iPhone. It just felt right to read a real book out in nature).
Oh, how I love long weekends, but sadly they do have to come to an end. Happy Tuesday and back to reality, everyone.
