cereal and 3191

breakfast and 3191
Here is a breakfast I've been eating. These are Heritage Flakes, so not technically sugar free, but still a healthy flake. (I ran out of Grape Nuts).  I call this concoction "power cereal" because of all that goes onto it:  cut-up dates, bananas, and apples.  Sometimes I add chopped nuts.  You can also finish it with a dusting of cinnamon, which is yummy.  I add milk to this but you could certainly do it with yogurt or almond milk.

Also pictured:  3191Q.  I like this magazine!  It is especially fun pulling out old back issues.  They really hold up.  The images and ideas are so timeless.  Confession:  I think the first year was the best.  Is that true with most things?  They pull out all the stops and the topics can be so basic because it's the first year and they haven't done anything yet.  I'm super curious to see what they come up with for year 3 (which should be starting soon).

Some favorite 3191 blog posts:
:: this one (about Kapla blocks)
:: this one (about healthy eating at home)
:: this one (about wearing scarves)
:: this one (an all time favorite of mine about "welcoming the new year with ease and calm")

Those links will give you an idea of what they do.  The quarterlies are very similar with the added advantage of being a physical copy that you can throw in your bag and carry around with you.

**Thanks for all the "real mail" requests that are still coming in.  Don't worry if I haven't replied to your e-mail yet.  I will add you to my list!  This is going to be fun.

Mmm, looks like a good breakfast! I've been eating a mixture of toasted seeds/nuts/coconut with quinoa puffs (that I accidentally bought) with yogurt and frozen berries, for a high-protein, low-sugar breakfast.

3191 is lovely, but I balked at the price after one year's subscription. I mean, good for them for getting paid for their words and images, but I guess I'm too cheep to spring that much for a magazine.

Hi Andrea. I agree that 3191 is not for everyone. It's pricey and arty. I treat myself to it. Maybe my attitude is wrong, but I feel like I work and I want some treats from that. Plus, I totally agree with the sentiment of "good for them for getting paid [a fair price] for their words and images." I like supporting that. On the other hand, the blog itself is free of course--so everyone can still partake, even if not buying the quarterly.

Oh wow, your breakfast sounds great.
