faith's birthday
We celebrated Faith's birthday on Thursday. She wanted a fun and relaxed day. Carrie is still here, so Faith, Carrie, my niece Katherine and I all went shopping in Thousand Oaks (Faith's choice) and we had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. In the evening we had everyone over for burritos and cake and trampoline jumping. The weather was horrid! Hot and humid--the worst day of the summer so far--but everyone was in good spirits nonetheless.
About her cake: it is the Double Happiness Rainbow Cake from Ladies Home Journal. I'd clipped the article at my mom's house a few months ago and thought it would be perfect for Faith's birthday. I just used two cake mixes (white cake) and followed the color progession from the magazine as closely as possible. For the frosting I just made a double batch of buttercream (on the back of the box of powdered sugar). I have to admit, the whole thing was leaning quite precariously, but it was still amazingly festive and colorful when we cut into it.
Happy birthday Faith! You are a wonderful young woman and I am so proud of you!
