I'm doing a 366 project, and so far I have met my goal of posting a picture a day. They are not all pretty and many are last-minute "oh crap, I haven't taken a picture yet" photos, but overall I'm liking this little project.

My goal is not to become a better photographer (I would love to be better, but I don't really see myself growing in this way because I don't/won't put in the time to work on it). My goal is just to take a photo a day for a year and see what happens. At the end of the year I'll have a big photoset on my flicker and I think it will be neat to look back on. I think forcing myself to take a picture every day may give a more balanced "real life" element to my photography, rather than just snapping a photo when I have something to blog about, ya know?

My biggest challenge in this project is that I work every day and I don't lead a varied life with a lot of different things to look at and take pictures of presenting themselves everyday. Quite the contrary. I do the same things every day and the same things every week. So I may end up with a lot of photos at Royal Bakery on Thursdays (where I meet my friend before our Weight Watchers meetings) and a lot of Chipotle and the like on Saturdays! I lead a repetitive life, that is for sure. But I like it and I'm enjoying this challenge.

Anyone else doing a photo a day this year? How is it going?

In some ways this project may point our rhythms you didn't realize you had. I saw my blog becoming quite repetitive and realized what a good routine we had.

I've been doing this as well on flickr and did so last year too. I find the photos I end up liking the most are not the "pretty" ones, but the ones that give a glimpse into our everyday life, the kids putting their shoes on as we're leaving for school, etc. I also put a little comment about the day in there, if there is something I want to remember. Some days I miss it though and am left at the end of the day trying to take a photo in the dark! It has been a fun project and my kids really like looking back at all the "photos of the day".

I started something similar this year too! I have 3 kids and each gets a photo/day. I think I have a little rhythm going, but also am struggling with the routine of photos being snapped at the kitchen counter. The kids however are loving it and even after only 1 month we have some really fun and funny shots. Their moods of the day are definitely showing even through the monotony. I'm having a blast with this project!

Andrea--yes, I agree. Just scenes of the everyday are probably the most cherished years from now.

I love your 366 photos, so much color! I am also doing that this year. How did you make the little collage with all of them? I would love to make one of those for January.

Jennifer--it's fun, isn't it? I love the mosaic--a month at a glance.

I used the mosaic maker here: http://bighugelabs.com/mosaic.php

I did the photo a day project last year, and managed to do one every day with very few skips. At the end of the year I used shutterfly to make a book of all the photos for my husband for Christmas. He loved it! I do feel like you, though, that sometimes my photos are boring. It's hard in the winter when the days are so short, too.

I keep meaning to say to you about a book I have called a year of mornings. . . But noticed you get the journal by the same ladies and you're doing your 366 project!! I attempted something similar a couple of years ago but only managed about 6 weeks. I got some lovely photos though. I hope you stick with it as yours will be amazing! Love Natasha.. . Country girl.

Natasha/Country Girl--I love that book! I only wish sometimes that the photos were larger format so that I could get a better look. Thanks for the nice thoughts about my photos. I'm surprised that I have stuck with it, four months in. At this point I feel I can power though. I think the key for me is that I'm not putting any pressure on myself to have it be 'good' or artistic. I just want it to show a bit from my day.

I think that every day photos are so much more interesting, and I love to have a little look at other people's lives, they always seem a lot more interesting than mine! If you look at the colours on your Instagram page, where there are all the little thumbnails of your pictures, they are so vibrant. It would look great printed out and framed just like that! I agree with you about the pictures in that book. I sit trying to have a really good close up look at things in the pictures, from patterns on plates and cups to what is on the windowsill in the background. Some might call me nosy but I just like looking at the small day to day things in life!! I'm loving your blog again please never give up! Natasha x
