on break

more scenes from the winter village

So here is what I'm thinking-- I got through the week somehow and now here we are on break. I'm exhausted and feel sick. I'm not terribly organized for Christmas, but we have presents, we have a tree (partially decorated), I even have a tin or two of cookies in the freezer. We have a small stack of Christmas DVD's and a ton of Christmas CD's. We have each other. That's really everything we need, no? We can snuggle on the couch, read books to the kids, eat the cookies, listen to the music, look at the tree. I officially promise right now to enjoy it and not to stress. Are you in?

{I love finding the little groupings the children put together in the winter village. That dark complected gnome is one of my very favorite characters in the village. Love him!}

Yes, Mary Beth, thrice yes! The lolvely way you chose to live your life, with intentional simplicity wherever possible is more important now than at any other time of the year. Go slow: slow, food, slow days. This is a good gift to teach your boys too. Much love from my little family to yours and all good wishes for the new year.

That sounds like the PERFECT plan, Mary Beth.

I will be vicariously soaking in your break from afar. So for my sake -of no productivity, no rush, more not getting it done. The antithesis of my work life. Hmm I can smell coffee, cookies, playing boys and Southern California mid-morning on the couch right now. Delightful!

My break begins today, and like you, I'm not perfectly prepared. But we DO have everything we need to really enjoy the season. Thanks for the reminder!

Hunker down and enjoy. You have the right idea.

Sounds lovely to me, too. We are enjoying Polar Express with hot chocolate and gingerbread cookies. Well, I am also finishing my grading, but I am nearly done. We have friends who rush to every Santa event, but I find it best to make Christmas simple and family-oriented.
Another fun idea - we like to learn about traditions from around the world. The kids love hearing about the Catalan yule-log, German Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht, the Austrian Nikolo and Christkind, the Italian la Befana, etc. plus all the Solstice traditions that we haven't even gotten to. I wonder if there is a good book on those?

Oh, I wish. We leave the day after tomorrow for a cross-country flight to spend Christmas in a hotel room. Deep breaths. It will be fun and not stressful. Hope that you get lots of good rest and feel better soon.

I'm in - and actually have been having fun creating gifts with the kiddos. I love when we can just make together without any big plans and then in turn just enjoy one another. We have a tough time with finding movies that are okay for our very sensitive boys (read easy to have nightmares!) so instead we keep collecting more and more christmas/winter/holiday books - perfect for a warm cup of coffee and hours of snuggling together. Enjoy your fam, the holidays and the simple moments.

Exactly! The most important thing during the holidays is treasured time with family & friends. Enjoy!
