sparrow

pretty

Are you familiar with Sparrow magazine? The first issue came out today and I am really enjoying it. There is something about this magazine that feels inclusive. Working-outside-the-home mamas seem to be included. Those of us who are interested in whole foods and healthy living but are also a little bit mainstream seem to be included. The theme of the magazine is grounded, whole living in the areas of Body," "Mind," "Nest," "Connections," and "Flight." I am excited to have an article in "nest" on one of my favorite topics, loving the home you have. Head on over and take a look!

Congratulations on the great article! I loved your idea about organizing the books by color -very clever.

I also liked your comments on the children's toys. We too keep all their toys in our living room as that is the only place for it. I want the children playing in the space the family spends their time. I actually think the toys add warmth and character and a truly lived in feel to the room - mess and all (:

I loved your article, too, Mary Beth! I get very insecure about going into people's homes, too, and I hate that a beautiful, catalog-perfect house can make me feel inadequate. We've been in this house for six years, and I'm only now starting to feel like it has some of my personal touches instead of trying to make it look like a catalog.

Mary Beth,
Thank you so much for your beautiful endorsement and description of Sparrow. You have captured our vision so well..to share inclusive ideas about mindful, intentional, and deliberate living. It's is so great to hear that you were able to get that. Thanks once again for you article. The topic is so close to my heart as well, as I much to often struggle with living in a very modest home in a not so modest area.Your authentic advice connects with so many people. Thank you for sharing so much here, and now with Sparrow too.

Nice article Mary Beth. I have felt the same way about our house, it's small and when we adopted our daughters, it became even smaller. My beading space is in our bedroom, and it seems that there never is a good option for this house for best space, etc. We finally turned our un-used dining room back into a family room, but I'm still not happy with it. I too, have been envious going to other people's houses. I'm slowly getting over it, but there isn't much about our house I do like. I wish when we were first looking at houses when we were first married, before kids, that we'd picked a different kind of house. Or thought ahead of time what we might want in a house with 2 kids, and dogs.

But reading your article helped me a bit, and I am finding ways to spruce up the house.

I like the way you organized your books and I always like looking at your house when you decide to change things around or add something you've made.
