doing weight watchers

I had a very good first week on Weight Watchers and was excited to lose 3.4 pounds at the first weigh-in. The program is very healthy and, despite my big week-1 loss, I'm aiming to do it very slowly and try to adopt a true, healthy lifestyle change which will remain permanent. I have 10 pounds to lose (total) and my friend that I'm doing it with has 40 to lose, so we are in it for the long haul. I find maintenance to be the hardest part, so that will be my real area of challenge and focus after I've reached my goal.

A couple little things I'm enjoying:

:: Laying out a bunch of healthy sides at the dinner table, to be enjoyed by all and that add no points to my Weight Watchers day. I'm loving the "free" fruit element to the updated program. It really promotes healthy snacking!

:: A poached egg breakfast. The one above consists of a poached egg (2 points), a bagel thin (3 points), a teaspoon of Earth Balance (1 point) and a side of slow roasted tomatoes (0 points). I made the slow roasted tomatoes by slicing the tomatoes in half, drizzling with a tiny bit of olive oil and some basil, and roasting in the oven on its lowest setting all night. They become very dense, sweet and yummy. (I don't count the drizzle of olive oil, but I should). In lieu of a roasted tomato, I use a sliced fresh tomato. They are so good coming out of the garden right now!

Congrats on your first week success! I lost 17 pounds on Weight Watchers this summer and I've been in maintenance for a few months now. Like you, I love how the free fruits and veggies pushes us toward more whole foods and healthy snacks. I'm stealing your idea of multiple side dish options. It looks so yummy, and I bet my kids would think it's fun! Thanks for sharing your progress. :)

the poached egg for breakfast looks divine! i am usually too busy and in a hurry, so muesli and yogurt has to do. i saw a bit of a pbs show on micronutrients and the key there was 'the salad is the main dish.' all the yummy sides will surely fill you up and are so good for the body, too.

Great going. The new program is great isn't it? I've joined many times before but this is first time I think I can keep up the way of eating. In 8 weeks I've lost 15lbs :-)

Congratulations on week 1. I love your "sides". In fact, this simplifies meal prep doesn't it. I find my kids eat way more fruit and veggies if I just cut them up raw and plain. Simpler and healthier - bonus!

This looks delicious!

I too did WW, and think it's great for getting you to look at food properly.

Good luck!

Congrats Mary Beth! That's an awesome weight loss for your first week.

I too like the multiple options for sides, wish I'd thought of it before. I need to lose 15 pounds and would love to go on WW to do it. That breakfast looked yummy. The free fruits and veg are great too.

What is the 'new' program like? Can you do an overview blog post if you have time? I'm curious and kind of on the fence about joining, but would like to drop the 15 pounds I need to lose (or 20 if I could manage it).

Great job! I "went back" to WW yesteday. I am a Lifetime member who needs to lose 10 lbs. at least. I love the new program, but I'm so sad that all of my old recipes are now obselete (or need to re-calculate points! a pain)

Keep up the good work!

So sweet that Faith commented on your blog!

mary beth,

I love reading your beautiful blog! You, your family and your lifestyle is so inspiring and heart warming, also love your book suggestions. Good for you for joining WW, I have done that in the past and it is great. I want to share an additional tool that has really been helping me. It is called myfitnesspal and it is available either as an app or online and it is free. I have lost 15 lbs and for me, it is easier than WW. best of luck with your healthy life endeavor! Michelle
