a new playdough recipe

new playdough recipe

We tried a new playdough recipe, found here. This makes a wonderfully smooth and non-sticky dough. I had never thought of making several colors from a single batch (simply knead the food coloring into balls of dough after it cools), but how fun is that!

I want to compile a list of simple, fun, mostly kid-led activities that don't take a lot of time for the mama to prepare or set up. Things like homemade bubbles, playing with blocks of ice, that sort of thing. My pet peeve is taking 20, 30 minutes or more to set up a project and then the kids lose interest after 5 minutes. Simple is best, in my opinion. Any favorites to add?

cornstarch and water - goop, goo, whatever you want to call it is ALWAYS a fav in our house. As is baking soda and vinegar to make an exploding volcano type activity. I'm going to try out that playdough recipe, we're in need of more creative outlets right now ;)

Making cornstarch "paint" is fun and quick. Just mix cornstarch with water and some food coloring. I use a muffin tin to hold all the colors and then you are ready to paint on sidewalks and driveways. Lots of fun!

I love this playdoh too! Clean up is super easy, my favorite part! For another easy activity have you tried sink/float games? I use wrapping paper or rubbermaid storable filled with water. Add items that sink/float. Corks are fun they do both. Arm kids with fish tank nets and random kitchen utensils. Tongs are fun. On a hot day this can be a fun and loooonngg activity!!

We color our dough with koolaid powder. It makes it smell yummy!

I like to make a box of odd recycle/trash. Then pull it out and let them have at it with glue and stuff.
