happy mother's day!

{me with my mama--circa 1974}

We had a very nice mother's day, including a fun visit with my own mother (where we had tea and scones with whipped cream!) I was amazed to find that there were hardly any pictures of me with my mother in all of her extensive collection of photo albums that she has kept up for years. It turns out, she was the one usually taking all the pictures. But this one shows us dressed alike for a mother-daughter fashion show. I remember being disappointed at the time that we weren't dressed identically, but now I think we look adorable. Happy mother's day, mom!

I enjoyed reading about the history of mother's day in Mrs. Sharp's Traditions. Mrs. Sharp suggests, "Dear Reader, this year decide no matter how the day turns out, from now on you will observe Mother's Day in your own special way: by reflecting on the intangible joys that come from being a mother . . . mentally toss out the past year's accumulated burden of guilt, and start anew." What a nice way to consider the day.

Aww. Never paid attention to the mother/daughter outfits my designer mother made for us until I was 12. That day after school she slipped her matching dress on as we went to the mall. I was so embarassed as a woman commented with admiration "Look, mother/daughter!" as she crossed us on the opposite escalator. Now in my European life I miss her and wish I had such outfits to share with my girl.
