{McCalls M5430}
Oh my goodness, what a week I've had (actually the past few weeks have been busy and stressful--and not in a good way. All work related stress--the family is good).
I've realized lately how important routines are for me. I just fare so much better when I have and stick to a schedule. It seems like lately my normal routines have all been neglected or askew, but last weekend I made a special point of having what I'd like to think of as a "normal" Saturday. Putting the house in order in the morning, and then a few hours of sewing time after that. It's so restorative! I used the time to finish this wrap skirt. It took me much longer than the "one hour" promised on the pattern! I know I'm a slow sewer, but honestly, I think one hour is completely unrealistic--this skirt has a long hem, a waistband in three pieces, and lined pockets.
Anyway, this was a fun pattern to sew up, and I'm pretty happy with the result. It's a bit fuller than I expected, but I'm actually kind of enjoying it. The fullness and the big bow make it fun and feminine--sort of a young look, but I think I can pull it off. And I do love this shade of green. Sewing my own clothes is always such a crazy endeavor--they never turn out quite like I'd hoped--but on the other hand, you end up with something no one else has and there's just something a bit cool about wearing a garment you've sewn yourself.
Next up: hopefully a coffee cozy and a big yellow comforter cover (I need to get on cutting a bunch of squares. It's basically going to be like this one, only with yellow thrifted sheets). And I'd love to buy and make this pattern. So cute!

Oh wow that is gorgeous! The colour, the pockets, everything, I love it & you more than pull it off, you rock it. ;)
How long *did* it take you in the end?
Vic--honestly, it took about 5-6 hours total. It was fun, though. (I worked on 3 separate days . . .)
And thank you!!
I think the skirt is gorgeous - what a great colour for Spring and Summer!

i might try and make one too...x
love the skirt - you look great!!
Cute Cute Cute!! That color is perfection. You look super fun!
I love the skirt! I'm curious what type of fabric you used, it looks to have nice body and hang just right. I'm sure I could never finish it in 1 hr either.
Nettie--it's a linen and cotton blend from Joann!
The skirt is so cute and you absolutely pull it off. The color is quite spring and chic. I started making a skirt for myself in a sewing class over the winter and have yet to finish it. I enjoy sewing for my son much more so than for myself it seems.
Love the skirt. And your cutie in his underware! It is so great when I figure out things about myself that helps me through my days...everyone benefits!
