comforter cover--finally done!

back in September: pile of fabric

Remember this little pile of fabric? It's from all the way back in September.

back in September: laying out the squares

The boys helped me lay out the squares in a random design.

I sewed some of the rows and then it sat for several months, half done.

comforter cover: finally done!

And now it is done! It felt great to slip the comforter into it and see it puff up. These are a selection of Ikea nature prints mixed with thrifted sheets and fabrics from my stash.

comforter cover: finally done!

The back is entirely this thrifted sheet.

So glad this is finished! It really brightens up the bedroom.

It's beautiful!! Sometimes it's good to just set things aside for a bit and wait for that inspiration to kick back in again to get a project finished!

i love your fabrics. i have some fabric with the outlined birds stashed. Do you have any book recommendations for learning to sew a quilt for beginners? I have to search around the library but I definitely want to sew a comforted this year.

Thanks, everyone.

Christine: this comforter cover was inspired by the book Scandanavian Needlecraft. The instructions are pretty basic. Here's the link of you are interested:

Also, for a quilted quilt, I really liked the instructions in Bend the Rules Sewing.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions--
