up next

Having a crafty to-do list posted in my studio is helping me be so focused about what my next project will be. I'm really loving that because I'm a person who tends to overthink these types of decisions when what I'd rather be doing is just starting in. So next up is a queen sized comforter cover for our bed. I really like the idea of this and have been wanting to make one for so long. This weekend I assembled the fabrics and started cutting the first few squares.
I'm getting a lot of inspiration for the colorway from this photo. I love the way that soft blues and natural linens are paired with black and white prints.
The photo comes from this book, which I am loving so far. I haven't made anything in it yet, mind you, but I'm loving pouring over it. Faith got this for me for my birthday in June. Everything in here is my taste.
Love this little cloth for the coffee table. I hope to make this at some point.
Also loving this wintery garland. I don't feel the need to buy every beautiful craft book that comes out these days because there are just so many of them (and I have so many want-to-make projects lined up in my existing craft books) but this one I just love owning and I hope to make many of the projects "someday."

What a lovely book! I made a comforter cover last spring from all fat quarters, and it was such a quick, satisfying project to make and makes my bedroom such a beautiful inspiring place to be (compared to the drab and somewhat dingy comforter hidden inside)...I even make my bed in the mornings so I can see it (something I never did before)! Here's mine: http://remainsofday.blogspot.com/2009/06/duvet-or-not-duvet.html Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I love your fabric choices for the comforter. Can't wait to see it. I came close to purchasing that book myself last week at the bookstore. Isn't it fun when you find a book so chock full of projects you'd really want to make? I haven't figured out how to get back to sewing and embroidery with a toddler underfoot. By the way, I have to say thanks for the inspiration when I saw your Good Folks throw in your archives. I ordered my Good Folks stack yesterday! Hoping it's a reasonable project for me to tackle, without leaving the dining room as a sewing room for a month :) I'm at ofttraveledpath.blogspot.com

Hey, I bought that book two weeks ago and have already made the cute egg cosies. Next up is the bird garland. It's so lovely this book and just my style too. Am just back from campng in our VW with my little boy and saw so many beautiful slate grey and lichen green colours on the beach that I am inspired to use those colours too. P.S. All went well aside from a hypo on the motorway that saw me struggling to drive safely whilst shouting at Frank that juice was coming soon. As a school nurse I know you'll get why I was frantic!

Okay...that quilt is EXACTLY what i've wanted to make for our bed! What book is it in? Your order should be there soon! Yay!

I am in love with the bird garland, can you give the instructions on how to make it? I can see the pictures and can imagine embroidering the designs but would love to get the actual instructions without buying a whole book...

I am loving that garland and think it is a great winter decoration, without being Christmasy. Happy crafting!

Where do your purchase all your beautiful fabrics?

I have just discovered your blog and I think I'm in love! It's been wonderful to see your beautiful craft projects and read about your lovely family. How on earth do you do it all?!

Charmaine--thank you so much for your lovely words! The answer to your question is that I well and truly do not "do it all." Until recently, I would have also said, "and our house is even not that clean!" But using the Flylady system has helped so much with that.

My husband helps a lot with many things and does so much of the childcare in our family. He works locally (part time) while I work in another town (with a commute) full time. And because I do work, I can often run errands on the way home, which is convenient. And most weekends we give each other a little "personal time" and that is when I can do a bit of sewing. And another thing you may notice is that I work on each project a longish time. I'm definitely not cranking out a project each week (although I would like to!). And I get summers off, and all school vacations (I'm a school nurse)--so although I work full time I get lots of breaks.

Probably more than you wanted to know, but I don't want anyone to get the impression that I hold myself up as any kind of superwoman. Quite the opposite, actually.
