thfiting update

Last week I had a doctor's appointment early in the day, and on the way home I thought, "I'm alone. This is the perfect time to stop and do some thrifting. Why not?" It felt good to be back in my familiar, large, well stocked, junky, gross thrift stores. So here's what I found. Old linens (I keep collecting these for another picnic quilt someday), and that basket up there, which is maybe my most amazing thrifting find ever. A pristine, perfect-condition Longaberger wooden basket, signed and numbered, for two dollars. I couldn't believe it when I spotted it amongst all the junky made in China baskets! I love it. It's a wonderful shallow size that could be used for anything (toys, craft supplies, knitting, a collection of little books . . .)
Colorful shirts for the boys. I love them in these colors. There were so many cute boys' shirts there that day. I could have bought more.
70's era platter. I just love collecting these cute 70's designs. This is large and in pristine condition. I'll use this for cheese and cracker plates and the like.
Shoes. Could not resist these cute double buckles. I slipped one on in the store and it fit perfectly. It's a comfort brand. It wasn't until I got them home and walked around a bit that I realized the heel is a bit high for me to walk in!
Cute sweater hoodie. I'm using this already. I'm a huge fan of layering cardigans.
Banana Republic cable sweater. This is going to be my winter walks on the beach sweater. Again, this was in perfect condition. I need to get better photos of these sweaters.

There is a new thrift store in downtown Ventura. Amongst all the junky (and super popular) ones, is a brand new "upscale" Goodwill. It's very clean and airy and did not draw the crowds that the others do, although there were several people shopping besides me. Goodwill has a reputation for being pricey, but everything I saw was reasonable. I got the shoes and the Banana Republic sweater there. Each was $3, which I thought was fine. I think it will be a nice addition to downtown thrifting.

What great buys! I am a GW fan... I was told recently that the Ventura and Santa Barbara GW's all have the same prices. I went by the new GW in Ventura but was put off by the high rent district and lack of parking (Admittedly it was a weekend). Happy to see that you had success!

HOA Mgr Lady--in downtown Ventura I always drive around to the free lots and usually find something pretty easily.

Mary Beth I just love your thrifting updates. Looks like you made out well. I am hoping to get some thrifting in tomorrow as well as donating stuff. And while I've never been to Ventura, my neighbor is there right now helping her daughter with her newly adopted son. Small world.
