little knitted capelet and other scenes from the weekend

I finished this little knitted capelet for Dieter and he loves it. I had intended it to be a longer play cape (a "merman's cape" since the colors are all oceany), but as it turns out I had to bind off early because I hated working with the acrylic yarn so much. This yarn is from when I was first starting out, trying to teach myself to knit, and apparently I did not know better than to buy acrylic yarn. Dieter doesn't mind the short version and I am very happy to be done with this. All remaining acrylic yarns will be donated to the thrift store.
Dieter chose that yellow button and I think it's a nice complement to the blue.
Other scenes from around the house:
These pillow covers got a good soaking and washing.
The mantle.
Playdough play.
We made a little bake shop.
Grains replenished.
Breakfast.
Dieter's treasures, all laid out. He keeps these in a box under his bed and likes to go through them occasionally.

Hope you are all having a happy weekend!

Love your photos! I painted my son's bedroom this weekend! :)

P.S. I am very tempted to by the cookbook Apples For Jam, do you enjoy it?

Oh, I love it! It's continually inspiring. Every time I pick it up I feel inspired and comforted and all the recipes are good (that I have tried so far). The whole tone of the book is very down to earth and the recipes use easy to find ingredients. Nothing about it is preachy or holier-than-though. The photography is gorgeous. Highly recommended!

I just love that treasure print on your mantle! And very nice job on the capelet, especially when the yarn was not so nice to work with.

Love the prints on your mantle! Also, could you share your granola recipe with us? I'll search for it on your blog in the meantime.

Thanks Mary Beth! I was intrigued with a post awhile back, making ice cream without an ice cream maker. I *love* the idea of this. (The less gadgets in my kitchen, the better!) Have a wonderful weekend. :)

I especially love the treasure. I find it fascinating what little ones like to hold onto. And that caplet is awesome even if it is acrylic. I just bought some acrylic yarn thinking it was 100% wool because the label had "wool" in it. I was bummed when I got it home and actually read it more closely.

Ooh, I know what you mean. I can barely touch acrylic anymore. The capelet is very cute though. I love that Treasure print. It's one of my favorites from her. Dieter's treasures are so adorable. Very sweet that he enjoys sorting through them like that. :) Have a wonderful week, Mary Beth!

How cute everything looks around your house. So did you originally make those pillows you just washed? I like them. And that treasure of Dieter, so fun. Ri, also loves to collect. But they end up all over the place. Wish he would use the treasure box we made a while back. *sigh*

Cute...love the capelet. My boys keep little boxes and bins of random bits of things that have meaning only to them. So cute (till they end up all over the floor and I step on them!!)
