chai mix

A few weeks ago I finally got around to making this chai latte mix. I'd been meaning to do it forever, ever since I found the original link via Angry Chicken. (By the way, in looking for the link just now I realized that her "In the Kitchen" category on her blog has a ton of awesome recipe inspiration in it--especially for soups.) I loved the concept of this chai mix. You dump a can of sweetened condensed milk into a jar and mix it with all your chai spices, and store it in the fridge. Then, whenever the mood strikes, take a spoonful of it and mix into a mug of hot, strong tea. I love the novelty and ease of this. Faith has been using it too (which I like. It's so much more companionable if I'm not the only one drinking it. And now maybe you will make it too and then I really won't be the only one drinking it).

I had a big delay in making this because I kept waiting for Trader Joe's to re-stock the organic sweetened condensed milk (shown in this post) that they used to have. Finally I realized that it's not coming back. I ended up buying regular sweetened condensed milk at the store. After that it's super easy and such a fun treat. Highly recommended!

Oh, YUM! I'll be joining you and Faith for a cup of that. How nice that you can store it for up to 6 mos!

Mmm...I think I'll make some to keep on hand at work this winter. I wonder if you can make your own sweetened condensed milk?

Yum! I love Chai. I used to buy the ready-made mix by General Foods International. I think it's not being carried in stores by me anymore.

Making your own mix at home is much more better.

I wonder if this concentrate would work well in hot milk as well?

Andrea-I am intrigued by your comment about making homemade sweetened condensed milk!

this sounds yum. I try to limit dairy and soy in my diet, so I wonder if I could use some other milk substitute. Also, I love that I can make it as sweet as I want - I find most chai mixes are cloyingly sweet...

You're not alone! I've made it too and enjoyed it instead of my plain milky tea for as long as the mix lasted; I'm sure to make it again as soon as I need chai, perhaps next month.

Yum! I love chai but always find it too milky, what an easy recipe though I may give it a go.

Count me in for a mug of chai. I've been using the mix from Trader Joe, but this looks way yummier!

i became really, really fond of this last winter. ;) yummmm. i have backed off since it has been so hot here, but i have already been thinking about it. glad you've discovered it, too. it sure is divine!!!

we use whole spices to mix it up. my kids grate the nutmeg and grind the cardamom and clove in a mortar and pestle. they love getting in on it!

Yes yes! I love this as well, and have a batch ready and waiting in my refrigerator. I made a batch for my mom, too, because such goodness begs to be shared!

Okay, I tried it! So good. I gave the boys some in their glasses of milk, and they went CRAZY. Thanks for sharing it. I'm going to add some of this mix to coconut milk to make chai popsicles... I'll let you know how they turn out!

Perfect - thanks so much for sharing this. There are several chai powders available here for purchase, but I didn't like any of them since they have artificial sweeteners in them.

I just made some of this! It is so yummy. I love it just with hot milk or made up like a hot drink with boiled water and a dash of milk and my little one loves to sit with me and have a 'tea'too :)

I clicked the link and it no longer worked (for me at least)! *gasp!* was wondering if you could list the ingredients/recipe for me? I was very, very excited for this!
