stay-home day

{coffee and then tea}
The day after Rainer's chemo I take an extra day off work and stay home with him. He needs a stay at home day and he's on steroids for a few days so you can imagine that would not be a good combo with daycare (tomorrow he'll be with his Gam and Papa, which he loves).

For lunch we had homemade beans (I'm still a novice at making them so it was fun) and we made homemade tortillas to go with them! I just got the tortilla press and we were anxious to try it out. It was the perfect project for a mom and little one. The dough is super easy to handle, and a three year old can work the press by himself.
{Lunch of homemade beans and tortillas with butter}
When Faith got home we got everything out again and made another batch along with this yummy drink. Rainer gets super hungry on the steroids so he ate a ton today. I'm so happy to be able to make nutritious food for him and enjoy his company.

Tortillas, I hadn't thought of making those with my kids, great idea. Did you find a simple receipe online? I'm curious if I could sneak in some wheat flour.

He's a beautiful boy... It's deeply satisfying to feed your child - must be even more so for you, days like this, when you can put all your loving energy into such yummy and nutritous offerings as these ones. I'm sure you're doing him good with every bite. x

Amy--they are corn tortillas made from a special Mexican corn flour called "masa" (in my grocery store it's with the regular flour). The recipe is on the back of the package--just masa and water--so easy!

Oh that looks so yummy. I really want to make homemade tortillas, do you have a recipe to share? My husband adores tacos, but I am not a huge fan of store bough whole wheat tortillas. I'd also like to add something else to my list of homemade.

OMGoodness, we love making homade corn tortillas around here. I've had one of those tortilla press since I got married (kind of had to, I grew up wit one and there was no way I wouldn't own one once I got married). The kids love it when I take it out and we make tortillas, with pinto beans and quezo fresco, yum! Or simply eaten with slices of avocado. Yum, again! (I know what I am making tomorrow night. Hehehe.)

Glad to know you are spending some time with your little one. And that he is doing so well.

Wow, all the time since I follow your blog I have been wondering how you do all those thoughtful crafting, the great cooking and the wonderfuls designs with your kids in the house.

And now I realise that one of your little ones is sick (I followed this story up on your blog now - I think I started reading your blog and it was never notified for some months) AND you are a working mom, too?!?

So how I come that I have a job without kids and most of my days I am too exhausted to do crafting and meanful cooking...

Well, I will follow my bad conscience and go on reading your blog ... all the best for your Rainer!
