eco market tote

Before our little trip to the desert, I managed to whip up an extra bag for myself. I've had this pattern for nearly two years (!) and finally managed to get around to sewing it up. I'm so glad I did because this is a great bag. I love a handmade bag, as you may have noticed, and I've been especially wanting a large and roomy one for beach trips and overnight. This really fits the bill. The pattern itself was easy to work with. It's a very simple design with a large panel that forms the bottom and sides--thus making the bag extra roomy. My only complaint is that even in home-dec weight fabric, the bag is loose and floppy. Next time, I'll try adding interfacing or batting. Otherwise, it is perfect.
I used an old sheet for the lining--so cheery. By the way, I was originally inspired to buy the pattern when I saw Lina's version of the bag. Go check it out--it's really cute.

LOve that bag!! And I so love the walls you photographed it against. Are those your curtains I see too?

Yes--studio curtains. Just panels of Ikea fabric, really.

So cute! I love the clouds! I just posted a bag on my blog today too which I ended up putting batting in to give it some umph. But, I think I would have preferred interfacing.

Super cute! Nice work. I actually like my bags a little on the floppier side.

It looks fab Mary Beth. Such fresh colours and what a great memory you have! You might be interested to know that I still use mine on weekly basis for trips to the pool etc and it's wearing so well. In fact I think you have inspired me to make another one!

Those SHOES! I'm in love with the bag, obviously, but those shoes are to die for! May I ask where you found them?
