snow alternative

(Ugh! I just lost my entire weekend's photos when they didn't upload properly from the camera and I just spent the last 40 minutes hunting around for them. Here they are--many of them, anyway. I need to mellow out now by staring at these soothing images!)

We intended to go to the snow Saturday. After our rainy week it seemed like the perfect time to head for the mountains and a little snowy escape, but alas, the roads were closed. Instead, we stayed very local and went for a hike on the riverbottom and how lovely it was! Crisp and blue. A perfect Saturday morning.
As I snapped this photo I was thinking how nice it is that the little boys can hike on their own now and not have to be carried. A minute later poor Rainer did a faceplant right into the dirt. Poor little guy! He was walking with his hands in his pockets and couldn't cushion his fall at all. After that, we carried him quite a bit! (And held hands).
It was fun finding winter color.
And seeing water in the river was wonderful. It's been so very dry these last few years. It has been a treat to get some rain!
I love this wintery view.

The boys had a fabulous time throwing rocks into the water.
I loved the sound of it too.

Ken packed us a little snack. It was a great little winter hike. What is your wintery landscape like right now?

Right now it's raining on about 2 feet of snow--slippy, icy, slushy, yuck.

Ha! We have snow, snow and more snow here in Fairbanks. We're actually low for snowfall this year, not that it appears that way when you look out the window. -10F right now--not TOO cold.

It looks like a wonderful walk. It is dry, cold, and very, very windy here. Too windy to go out at all, so we're getting a little stir crazy. Hopefully it will die down soon.

I lost oall my snowy winter cover last week with a warm rainy spell that came through. It's all going to change again as the temperature plummets this week and the (promised) snow starts to pile back up. Welcome to Michigan! I love it.

I love the simple things that you do as a family Mary Beth. I am sure that your boys will remember the many hours that they had their parents undivided attention!

It snowed 6 inches last night, I'll take it over all the gray fog we've been having!

What beautiful photos! Today in NY we are having 50 degree temperatures melting any remaining snow and ice! Tomorrow we are expecting to be back in the 30's with snow showers.

Snow and more snow. We still have a couple feet outside so we haven't been getting out much.

I much prefer your winter landscape......

I live on the opposite coast as you, but my weekend was surprisingly similar. I posted about our weekend here. Sounds like we all had a wonderful time, despite the fall.

Right now we are experiencing a pretty bad bit of rain on the east coast. It's 58 degrees! Melted all the snow and making a terrible, mucky mess...LOL! But we have zero temps coming in for the weekend. Typical New England, you never know what can happen, but I am dying for a bit of the weather your having:-)
