christmas preparations

So, amidst thinking about and staying present in Fall, I'm also trying to do just a bit of Christmas "work" so I won't have to in December. I'm planning a very relaxed, joyful, fun, family oriented Solstice and Christmas this year, which, for me at least, does not include rushing around at the last minute getting packages ready. It is so much more joyful for me to do it now, at a relaxed pace, then to rush when time is very limited. So to that end, I've been tying up jam jars and wrapping up the first few presents.
I covered the first few jars (one with fabric, one with paper) but found I like the presentation of the sticker with just some twine around the lid, secured with a button. I like the cleaner look of it.
Now if only I can keep this up!

I like the plain twine with the buttons too. You're going the right way about making the season thoughtful and fun, rather than a stressful last-minute burst of consumerism. Inspired!

The twine and buttons look lovely! I've been working on knitting neck huggers/ winter scarves since the 3rd week of Oct. I have 4 to do, and Im currently on my 3rd one! Like you, I too want to have a more family focused C'mas :) After the scarves are done, there are candles, gift wrapping paper, gift tags and even C'mas cards to be done! This year Im aiming to give at least one handmade gift to everyone on our gift list. And I've been inspired to do all this after reading your C'mas posts last year :) Thank you for sharing Mary Beth! Cheers, Avril

They look great, I love the twin and button, you are right, they look so clean. My goal is to be done with all Christmas gifts by the end of November so that I can just enjoy the entire month of December, but that's pretty optimistic. We'll see!

Wonderful jars! I know I am always happier when I have planned ahead and don't have to deal with the tyranny of the urgent. Sometimes I do and sometimes . . . :)

Funny that you posted on this since my post today was homemade vanilla extract for Christmas gifts. :) Your jars all look so sweet!

Very cute jars! The jam looks gorgeous. :) Anyhow, you're not the only one to start early. I've already gotten gifts for my mom and some of the kids in my family. Yup, we rock!!

oh I love the idea of the twine & button. I may use that this year as I plan to make wine jelly to give with fancy cheese & crackers this year.

Thanks for such nice comments, everybody!

Adrienne--this year I am also giving fabric buckets which I have been working on for quite a few months, postcards of my photos in fabric envelopes, some potholders, and I will make peppermint bark or other sweet treat to package up in little boxes closer to the holiday. Also we are giving sunflower seeds harvested from our garden (for planting in the springtime). Thanks for your question!

I am sewing this year for gifts also. Homemade all the way! I read your blog daily for inspiration. I am set to get going full steam ahead on my Christmas sewing once I finish sewing for my soon to be three year olds birthday.
