some studio time

On Saturday I got a delightful stretch of studio time while Ken took the little boys on an outing. I'm still trying to clean things up in there and still dealing with scraps--mostly small annoying ones in odd shapes. Oh if everything were cut into neat rectangles, pressed, and stacked! It occurred to me to try making log cabin squares with some of them. There is lots of log cabin inspiration all over the blogs, most recently the beautiful ones here. I've never made a log cabin square and don't know how "officially," but when I was in Barnes and Noble the other day, I briefly read the directions in Patchwork Style (which I don't own yet, but is going on my wishlist). It's pretty easy and so so fun to choose fabrics and trim them as you go. My green square is above, on the inspiration board (which got a much needed clean out for fall too).
And here's the blue one, which I put on a drawstring bag. These are all entirely from my remaining scraps. And the fabric for the drawstring bag is from a cloth that came with the learning tower. It feels so resourceful, repurposing like that.
The drawstring on the bag is patchwork, too. It's amazing how refreshing creative time can be. I'm all energized to create now. But alas, it is Monday and I'm off to work--Happy Monday!

I love that bag, and I love the idea of just taking time, in your own creative space, for inspiration. Hope you enjoyed it.

The log cabin square is lovely. I always enjoy seeing what you're working on. That aquamarine wall is just perfect for photographing all things crafty. :)
