child of faerie, child of earth

I thrifted this book a few months ago and loved it but my little boys did not. I did read it to them initially and after that they didn't want it again. It kind of became a little joke between Dieter and me. I'd ask, "how about Child of Faerie, Child of Earth" as we would sit down to read in the evening. "No!" would always be his reply. Then a funny thing happened. This week he started to like it and he asked me for it four nights in a row. Hooray! So I thought I'd share some pictures of it here. This is a fall story so I'm looking forward to adding this to the autumn book basket when we put it together later this month.
On Halloween a human girl meets a faerie boy and goes to visit him in his world.
When morning comes, he visits her in the human world.
They become good friends and although the boy wants the girl to come live in the faerie world, and the girl wants the boy to live in the human world, they cannot.
But they always stay good friends, meeting from time to time, despite their differences. I really like the style of writing here too. It's written in rhyming verse and has a magical sound to it.

A three day weekend is almost upon us. Hooray! I have big plans to stay home this weekend. Enjoy yours too.

Isn't it so much fun to find a gem like that? We recently found a few seasonal books, that I had never seen before, at our favorite used bookstore too. I love the illustrations in that book. So warm!

I bought this book years ago, before I even had children - just imaging one day reading it with my own kids. And neither of mine likes it. But I think it's one of the loveliest children's books we own.

This is a lovely book, but I have had a similar experience. My 7-year-old son doesn't care for it all that much, even though I think it's perfectly charming and so beautiful. You've inspired me to try again and pull it into our autumn books. Perhaps this year he'll like it better.

I wonder what it is about this book? I also loved it, but my children did not.

We have this book too, and I like it more than my boy, but maybe he'll fall in love with it? I love the pictures, and the verse is so sweet.

I've seen this book but never picked it up. So thanks for suggesting. I like how it shows them age in the end. Enjoy your weekend.

What a wonderful find. The illustrations are beautiful and it is so very interesting that children don't appear to love it as much as adults do, have any of the children been able to express why they don't like it / connect with it?

snowflakes4sam--I honestly think that it's just a bit "boring" for them and maybe the language is hard to understand. I think the themes resonate a bit more with adults.

I love this book. I used to read it to my babes who are now pre-teen and teenagery. I am glad to see others enjoying it!
