I'm very much enjoying Handmade Home--it has such a sweet sensibility and such lovely projects. I want to make practically all of them! I made the mousepad immediately (a picture is here) and now I'm working on the roll-up picnic quilt. I've been wanting to make our own picnic quilt for so long and and having instructions for this super-simple one is just what I needed to spur me along.
Here's hers--isn't it sweet? I love her fabric choices.
My fabric choices are here. There are some old and thrifted sheets in here along with fabrics from my stash.
And I'm making my own seam binding for the first time ever! It's really fun. I hope it works--it's a bit narrower than shown in the photo. If it turns out well I have a feeling I'll be putting handmade seam binding on just about everything--it's so fun and pretty!

I can't wait to buy this book!! And defiantly want to do the picnic quilt...I love your faric, great taste doll!
Can't wait to see it (and get the book!).
The beach blanket is on my to-do list...I LOVE your fabrics! And I have really been enjoying Handmade Home too...once I am out of the craziness of postpartum land, I am going to make some goodies too!
I love your fabrics, and I can't wait to see your finished picnic quilt, especially with that handmade seam binding. :) I'm working on making a couple of handle covers for my cast iron pans a'la Amanda's quilted pot holders in the book.
how exciting... i can't wait to see your picnic quilt finished!
do you have one of those binding making machines or are you folding and ironing?
Beth-the mama bee--I have a little metal gadget for seam binding. When you run the fabric through it it kind of "guides" you where to turn in the edges. It still amounts to folding and ironing but is helpful.
I'm hoping this is the next book I buy. I have been wanting to make a picnic blanket for so long. I have no luck finding sheets as pretty as yours though.
I love this book too. I can't wait to make this blanket!
Looking forward to seeing yours.
This book finally comes out in the UK next week, and I can't wait to get it, feels like I've been hearing about it on US blogs for ages! In fact, I think I'm going to go right now and put it on pre-order on Amazon.
Can't wait to see how your quilt turns out!
Love your fabrics. This is the first project I'm planning on making from the book, I'm on the hunt for pretty old sheets at the moment.
Oh, do you use a Bias Tape Maker? I so want one of these! :)
Money Funk--yes, it's like the one in the picture. Mine is the 1" size. I like it!
