two skirts for spring

I finished two new skirts this weekend! First of all, let me say Faith took these photos of me in a hurry yesterday afternoon--we were having fun, but I see now that they are rather goofy! Please forgive. Now, about the skirts. Both are the A-line skirt from Sew What Skirts. This one is the wrap version. Love it! I am feeling very 70's retro in my wrap skirt. This fabric is striped seesucker (I think) from Joanne's that I've had in my stash a year or so. It's great to finally use it and I love how this turned out.
I think this waist detail is very cute, but after the fact it occurred to me that if you off-set the waistband/tie, then you could tie it on the side. I'll try that for next time.

This one is from thrifted fabric that I have a ton of. I love getting fabric for practically free--this one came bundled with two other fabrics for about a couple dollars for the whole thing. It's actually quite appealing, has sort of a chevron thing going on.
I turned the facing to the outside on this one and added button detail.

I adore the Sew What Skirts concept of drafting your own pattern. I very much hope a Sew What Tops and even a Sew What Pants is in the works.

I have Sew What Skirts but haven't taken the time to draft a skirt. I think I prefer that first skirt to the wrap skirt in Weekend Sewing, so maybe I should take the time.

There is a Sew What Bags too, which I also have and have not used.

How do you find time to sew with those boys? My boys want to "help" when I want to sew.

I love how those turned out! I tried the wrap skirt from Weekend Sewing, and it was a disaster (now it's an elastic waist skirt). I'll have to look for that book.

iremember wearing wrap skirts to school in the 70's - yes i am that old!!! and everytime i wore one the wind blew! i live in the southern california desert - so the wind blows a lot - and the days of wrap skirts didn't last long for me...but yours are cute

I love the wrap skirt! I have the "Sew What Skirts" book at home, but I haven't gotten around to sewing a skirt yet.

First of all, those pics are ADORABLE, not goofy at all! I think they look like what you would see in a magazine (don't even get me started on your fabulous arms peeking there)! And, um seriously, you are the cutest thing. And the skirts are fab. LOVE the red buttons. Nice all around.

(and apparently when i come out of lurkdom, i ramble)

Hey, you guys are very sweet. Thank you.

Lisa--it's a combination of things. Having a studio now, in which I can leave things set up, is a huge help. The boys like to play and draw in there and I can get a few things done, but mostly I have a couple hours on Saturdays when Ken takes the boys and then I do my sewing.

Sartita--yeah, wrap skirts are definitely not for windy days--I'm totally with you on that one.
