cheerios

My boys have been eating tons of Cheerios lately. It's their "thing" at the moment, especially Rainer. At certain points in his chemo, when he's on the steroid he has to take sometimes, he eats a LOT, and right now Cheerios is what he wants. They eat this plain with 1% milk. I'm all for a low sugar whole grain cereal that kids love. So I got to thinking, are there any other equivalent healthy cereals that kids will eat unadorned? What do you think?

PS--that little pumpkin head is beginning to grow back some hair. It's so fun to stroke his little "peach fuzz."

We've never been a family to buy sugar cereal or even eat sugar on our cereal but for the life of me I can't think of a good cheerios equivalent. Anna's eating Honey Bunches of Oats. We also like several of the less sugary 'square' cereals.

O's will forever be a staple in our house. They are perfect.

My crazy baby likes Chex. Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, Rice Chex...you name it...especially the wheat chex. She also likes puffed wheat. I think it gets soggy too fast though. There's always grape nuts which are yummy, just because. And so so so so crunchy. I don't know if there are any REAL substitutions for cheerios (I, for one, don't like cheerios AT ALL).

Barbara's Shredded Oat Squares! They're delicious as a cereal or as a finger food. My two year old loves them.

I've never known a kid to turn down a bowl of Kix. And in 15 years of professional home daycare, that should say something!

I wouldn't recommend this for others, but my 2-year-old loves Grape Nuts in her yogurt.

We've always bought non-sugar/sweetened cerelas (all food actually) for our kids. All grain, shredded wheat, bran or corn flakes(nothing added to them), museli for them. Museli is very sweet in a more natural way. My two actually love plain porridge. As I said--they've never had an option. Start-um young!

The same cereal bought here (U.K.) has far less sugar than back home. When we went home we bought Corn Flakes--and couldn't believe all the sugar on the normal ones--there isn't any added to that brand here. I couldn't get over how much hidden sugar is added to the food in the States. Something I didn't notice while living there.

corn flakes are another favorite in my house, my daughter is content to eat them just as they are. Sadly *I* am the one who wants to eat them with sugar!

I don't know if your little guys can have peanut butter, but we are a fan of the puffins organic peanut butter puffs. They aren't too bad in terms of sugar and they are quite yummy. I eat them dry as a snack all the time. I love the peach fuzz growing back!

There is just something so yummy about Cheerios and I'm always forgetting about them. The kind of nutty, oaty (?) flavor and plus the name...Cheerio - Cheery O's! Brilliant!!
