for their baskets

I've been planning to once again include a little "handmade" in Rainer and Dieter's Easter baskets. Two years ago I made them stuffed bunnies. Last year it was beanbag frogs. This year I decided upon these felt felt rabbits and soft stumps and I was fortunately able to finish them up over the weekend.
The pattern for the felt rabbits is from The Nature Corner. I've been wanting to try making this type of felt animal for a long time. They are all hand sewn, so much slower than I'd like, but I do love the "look" of this style of animal. There are lots of them in this book too. Inspiration for making the soft stumps came from this Flickr photo. I hope she doesn't mind. I basically made them the same way I made the mushrooms.
Each boys will get a bunny and a stump. I hope they like them. (Oh, yes, I know those bead tails are totally lame. I just don't have any pompoms, nor the yarn stash to make any. Maybe I can change them out in the future).
I'm just waiting for a few art supplies to arrive in the mail, then I'll have everything for their baskets--the handmade items, a new playsilk (we're desperately in need of green and blue!--the hard to find Kool Ade colors--thus these new playsilks are store bought), a couple wooden animals I've had waiting in the wings for a long time, and some art supplies. What are you giving in the baskets?

Those are SO cute! I'll have to tackle those next time, maybe. I'm making some Eggies that I saw on One Pretty Thing for baskets this year. I made the bean bag frogs about 6 weeks ago after looking through your archives, and my kids adored them. My daughter still plays with hers every day. :)

You can look here at the "houses" they built for their frogs. http://blaserkids.blogspot.com/2009/03/project-ful-weekend.html

Thanks, Mary Beth, for all the great ideas!

cute bunnies:o)
my little ones play with a set that i made(from the same book) for my older kids. they're about 12yo and still going strong. here's a little tail hint. when i made mine i cut out a small circle of fabric, gathered, stuffed it a bit, and sewed it on the back.

Those are adorable. I found a bunny tutorial online that I was hoping to make for the boys, but this is a crazy week. Both boys have birthdays this week (which is why it's crazy) so our baskets will be very very simple. The bunnies if I make them, and a few little pieces of chocolate.

If Rainer wouldn't eat it, you could also use a cotton ball for a tail.

These are so sweet... I love them, and I love your blog... I like the basket idea in your last blog. Just the other night my 5 year old and I made a couple for her. I wanted to show her the concept of weaving...

Awwww, bunnies! So sweet. If you had some white yarn you could make a homemade pom pom...

You may want to check out the Pooh Craft Book too, it has patterns for little felt dolls of all the Pooh characters (and they're classic A. A. Milne, not Disneyified). I was kind of obsessed with making them at one point, even designing entire lines of felt clothing and accessories for them.

I love these too! And the baskets yesterday. I feel lame really b/c we have not even died eggs yet, and I haven't made a thing. Maybe I'll make something this weekend, but I have a job interview tomorrow. I did buy two German wooden figures--boy and a girl, and a few pieces of chocolate, and a little bag of dried fruits (blueberries) and nuts. Have a happy Easter. It will be very low key at our house.

those stumps and bunnies are very cute! I'm making my two, bunnies from a pattern over on betz white's blogs, they're also eaching getting a pail, shovel, rake that are made of recycled plastic. A few jelly beans a chocolate bunny and some art stuff. Keeping it simple over here.

Those bunnies are sooo adorable...love them. Will have to find a copy of that book. I needle-felted three little bunnies, which are super cute and were fun to make, but gave me terrible shoulder pain ever since. I'm also adding wooden animals and a little book. Plus jelly beans and yogurt-covered raisins and bunny grahams (I know--lame health-food mommy). My oldest is hoping for a star wars figure b/c someone in his class got one for "early" easter...but somehow Star Wars just does not scream "welcome spring" to me.

I like the little bead tails! My four year old saw your photos and decided that the little stumps must be toys for the bunnies :)

Sadly there isn't much handmade in my children's baskets this year. We just moved to a new house and things have been a bit unorganized, but I stash many of your ideas away for when things calm down!

I love your blog--I've been a reader for quite a while. The childrens' baskets are so sweet. I love that you were able to sneak in a bit of your own work too!!

just for future reference, you can use food colouring (the gels are best) and vinegar in place of koolaid, much easier than seeking out those precious blues & greens! ;)
