steak pie

Just a quick post to say that the steak pie from Apples for Jam was amazing. Unfortunately, Sunday's tea party/fairy house making session made me late to start dinner, so these photos are not as pretty as they would have been in daylight. Oh well--a fair price to pay, I'd say.
So, steak pie. It was time consuming with lots of steps (ish) and long simmering of the meat mixture, but oh how special and delicious it was. What moved me to make a long, special occasion type recipe on a regular Sunday night, with not even a Monday holiday in sight? Maybe I'm a little crazy. On the other hand, I'm realizing that if I want to make some of the recipes from all my cookbooks I've been admiring and browsing though, I'd better just jump right in there. And in truth, despite the late dinner, I'm very glad I did.
About the pie--delicious flaky crust surrounding tender steak in a stew-like gravy. Actually, it's a lot like making stew, except as the final step you bake it in a crust. Highly recommended. Isn't homemade food so wonderful?

It's funny. I was admiring the lighting in your photo before I read your post.

The pie looks great. The beef and carrots stew from A4J is delicious, particularly done in the slow cooker.

That's it. I can't take the pressure. I think that cookbook must go on my birthday list.
