Crafting for my Man--Part 2

It's hard to come up with appropriate handmade gifts for a man, ya know? But Ken in particular appreciates a heartfelt, handmade gift, so I try. Last year I made him a fabric box and a bag. And he really uses them, so I think those were a success. This year I freezer-paper stenciled a shirt for him. He wore it today, and I think he looks hot in it. Another success, I guess.
Another thought: I'd like to have more handmade bags around the house. Today we went to the beach and brought canvas grocery-type bags. So boring! and impersonal compared to something I could make myself! Also, I'm seriously thinking about making fabric boxes for Christmas for everyone next year. I think they're great.
And one more thing: this is the hardest stencil I've done so far. It's because there are several "loose" pieces in the middle that must be replaced just so, or the image would look all wrong. I'm happy with how it turned out though (and I learned for next time not to pin the pieces in place--the paint goes right though even a tiny pin hole).

Hope you are all having a happy weekend!

I have been lurking for sometime now- I love you blog! Rainer is often in my prayers. I was wondering if you could tell me where you get freezer paper? I have been looking with no success. Your sewing/craftiness inspires me!

10 day count down to LOST season 5. That's all I have to say for now. And the shirt looks kickin. <3 Üdo

Did you iron the stencil in place? (Wondering about the need for pinning.) I haven't ever done that freezer paper stenciling but I am pretty sure that when you use it for quilting you can iron it on and then remove it.

Of course, I could be dead wrong too. LOL

Sarah--oh yes, I ironed it of course. It's just that the pieces were all moving around while I was trying to arrange them and I wanted to hold them down pre-ironing.

Kristin--I'm sorry I'm no help with the freezer paper search. I've never been able to find it either, but a bloggy friend mailed me some and now I hoard it! Try online.

Love the shirt, and how lucky you are that he'll actually wear it!

I found freezer paper at the grocery store--in the aisle with wax paper and tin foil. Reynolds makes it, and I have a huge roll that will take me forever to get through (since I dont' actually use it for freezing things!).

That is a great tee-shirt! And yes, he looks great in it! You know I have a thing for men of german heritage...

I don't think we can get that freezer paper in AUS? I never see it in the store. I may have to suggest a swap on my blog...
