Back to Work, Back to Life

So I got back to work on Monday. It was fine; fun and energizing in fact, but man! that break went fast. I would not have minded a few extra days. I gave myself the "gift" of getting up at 4:30 a.m. so as to have plenty of time to get ready. And it really was nice to play with the boys, nurse Rainer on the couch and generally have a leisurely morning. I'm usually guilty of being a chronic "snooze" pusher, but it is so much better to be relaxed with plenty of time. When will I ever learn that? This is a nice time of year for working in a school--lots of 3 day weekends upcoming. I like my little breaks and love pretending to be a stay at home mom.
And look at this pile of Christmas deliciousness I received. Such good stuff, I tell you! I've thumbed through all of them and dipped into a few. Last Child in the Woods looks fantastic! I'm very inspired already to get outdoors with the boys. And the two Waldorfy parenting books (Beyond the Rainbow Bridge and Heaven on Earth) both look very very good as well. I'm really excited to get some parenting tips from them; they both seem to encourage calm, centered, rhythmic household life.
And just for fun, this is Dieter in his Norwegian sweater. My mom bought him this on a cruise 2 years ago (it was large)! Finally he wore it on his birthday when he went to the snow. So so cute. I love it. I hope he gets some more wear out of it. At least we got this picture!

When did you get your Nikon? I was thinking it must have been for Christmas, but I looked through your Flickr and it looks like you've had it for awhile. Isn't it wonderful?
Your pictures are always so great.

I really love the gnome craft book. It's one of my favorites from that series. Beyond the Rainbow Bridge is also really great--so clear and calming. I want to read Heaven on Earth.

Enjoy all your books!

Do you mind commenting some thoughts you learned from the Heavan on Earth Book and the "Rainbow book"? I would love to know the highlights in a few sentences... somehow I have not mastered the art of combinging good reading time with being a mom of little kids. Although, I know you have!! :)
I LOVE your blog. Inspiring and full of good things. Thanks. Ginger

Oh, heavens. Well, I can't really summarize, but some of what sticks with me are using rhythm through out the day, week, and year. Allowing the children to help. Celebrating holidays very simply. Using natural materials. Less is more. Allowing the child to be imaginative. The adult not really leading or directing the children's play. I highly recommend Heaven on Earth. I loved it.
