Packaging Up the Cookies

I love making and giving little treats and cookies at this time of year, but I'm a little picky about the packaging. Mostly we've done a paper plate slipped into a gallon sized ziplock--practical, but not very appealing and certainly not creative. Last year I bought white bakery boxes and oh what a difference that made. Somehow the packaging elevates the gift. The cookies are special on their own, I suppose, but more so in a pretty box. But when I went to look for my white boxes this year (because I was sure I had leftovers tucked away somewhere), I couldn't find them! Much searching and frustration ensued. Luckily, the very next day was Friday, the start of vacation, and Ken and Rainer and I had a little lunch date/light shopping, including a trip to Michael's, where I found these cute boxes (in the Martha section). I love them so! A bit pricey to be sure, but fortunately I had my 40% off coupon with me.

Then lo and behold, a few days later I found the leftover white boxes from last year. Hooray! Now I have a good supply, which is making me very happy. Next year, though, I'm trying this method: special, but cheap and maybe less wasteful. Feel free to leave links to your favorite cookie wrapping options--I'm always interested.

I love the peppermint bark. And you're right, packaging does make the item look so much more enjoyable.

At Lollychop's blog, I have found a bunch of free printable packaging items and gift tags that can be printed onto card stock. They look fabulous.

You can see them here

those boxes are fabulous! This is the first year I baked cookies for gifting...it's not a common tradition around here but one I definitely want to make a tradition for my children. (as I love baking cookies!!!) I just put them in a zip-lock back and tied it with a string. I'll show pictures on my blog soon.

My dad's office does the cookie exchange every year and my parents always go for the cellophane bags with pretty details and a ribbon, or with a Chinese takeout box covered in pretty paper.

I do like the ones with the window in front!

Those with the window are so cute. I love the twine too.

A woman at Hanock's yesterday told me that I should buy gifts now on clearance and then on my 2009 calendar in November mark what I'd already bought and where I'd stashed it. I thought that was brilliant. You could mark where you stashed the empty boxes.

I'm baking mini loaves of a couple different kinds of bread today for people, and I've been wondering how to package them. Thanks for this post!
