Weekend Fun

I made a little tea party for the boys Sunday after their naps. The teens ended up joining in the fun too, which was a delightful surprise. I got out one of Faith's old tea sets. This one is the "Hans and Inga" set, which I adore. The boys didn't seem quite as fascinated by it as I am, but maybe with time they will be. They liked going outside for a little "tea" though. This is the first thing I can check off my list.
I made these little banana mini-bundts to go with our tea. The boys love helping with the baking projects. I think that is universal, even if love of little tea sets is not. I was quite pleased with the way our banana bread recipe baked up into mini-bundts. They were firmer and more "caremelized" (more crust per portion) than typical banana bread. The addition of chocolate chips made these supreme.

I did supply the big people with mugs for their tea. See that little mug to the left? Faith thrifted that recently. Awesome, huh?
I was inspired by this post at Odeedoh to make a little "under the table" fort for the boys this weekend. Ken went on an alone-hike on Saturday, so it was the perfect opportunity. It was easy--I just draped sheets over the dining room table and piled blankets and pillows underneath.

They liked it. I love the idea of adding little "fairy lights" in the future. Dieter even took his nap under there. I loved this sort of thing as a child--little enclosed spaces. I think we'll be doing this again before too long.

And might I say, wow, you guys feel passionately about the gifts for kids topic! I'll let you know how it goes. I have a smallish and very nice family, so I think it will be okay.

I can't believe Thanksgiving is Thursday already! The rest of the family is off this week. I work Monday through Wednesday. And Jacob is coming home for the holiday!! His first trip home since starting college. Can't wait to see that kid!

That looks delightful. I'm wondering if I can make a fort under my desk at work, hmmm.

Thanks for the under-the-table fort idea! It seems so easy and so effective; will certainly make that for my almost-2yo daughter. And your tea-party setting is so charming!

Oh how sweet--my little boys love playing with little tea sets--they broke the tea pot from mine, then I picked a set up cheap at an antique store and they broke that pot too--maybe a more organized/supervised tea party (with tasty treats) would be less damaging! And piling up couch pillows and afghans is a favorite activity of theirs--we'll have to try the table one out (if I can get both the table and the floor under it clean at the same time!)
