Still in the Hospital

Rainer is still in the hospital, but making progress. There have been so many issues and concerns, but he's getting stronger all the time, I think. I hope we don't have any more surprises. We really don't know when he'll be able to come home.
Meanwhile, Ken and I are trading off between the hospital and sometimes seeing the other kids, I'm still trying to go into work on some days, and my parents are watching Dieter and Faith on most days. Ben is with his mom. It's hard being all apart and being away from home. Mostly, we're supporting whatever Rainer needs and right now he needs to be in the hospital.

The picture is from our patio walk. Isn't he cute in his thrifted sweater? Simple pleasures, even amongst all this.

Sweet Rainer, I'm still thinking of you all. I don't know you, except in blog land, but I think of you often when I know Rainer is sick. I'm wishing a speedy recovery and I'm in awe of your bravery as well as Rainer's. You are all lucky to have such a loving, healing family. Best, Tava

I just started reading your blog a few weeks ago- Google reader actually recommended it to me! Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and tell you that I am praying for your family and your sweet little boy. I hope that he is able to come home soon!

Wishing I could see you some some comfort or strength or whatever you need most right now.

I was looking at "starred" posts my Google Reader and Salt & Chocolate came up so many times. I love the conscious choices you make in your mothering, and the realistic light you are able to show too.

Everything just sounds stupid when there is a child sick...so just know our family is keeping Rainer in our prayers.

I recognize that sweater. I bought the same one for Zoes 9 month pictures. I had to buy a boy sweater because I wanted Fall colors and all you can mostly find for a baby girl is pink or purple. Very cute!
I am keeping Rainer in my thoughts and sending you good wishes as always!

I've been a lurker on your blog for a while now. Your ideas somehow manage to be imaginative and whimsical yet also quite practical. I live in Charleston, SC and basically read home/craft blogs for the ideas and pretty photos. Yet I have found myself very concerned with Rainer and his illness. I have never met your family, but I so want all of you to be home together soon! Anyway, I am holding your beautiful boy lovingly in my thoughts.-Sarah

He looks great in that shirt. I'm happy he's doing better and hope it's only uphill from here.

I'm lurker and long-term follower. I admire how you seem to be able to manage raising a creative family and finding time for work, cooking, and so much more.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm a Peds Nurse and the strength of families going through situations such as yours never ceases to amaze me.

You are such a positive influence, through all this! I truly admire you. A question when you have time--what is the name of that craft book for kids that you love? I couldn't find it in your archives.

Hope you had a good Halloween and that little Rainer gets well enough to go home soon.
