Left to His Own Devices

I think it's interesting to see which books a child will choose to have read to him. Often I'll suggest a book, but the other day I left it totally up to Dieter and this is what he brought me:
I liked his selection, and it was totally child driven. A favorite of mine from this stack is We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Helen Oxenbury (it's on the bottom, in hardback. It's Jacob's old copy). The illustrations are wonderful:
I'm also loving that he enjoys his Ladybug magazines so much. The stories are long but he's turning out to be a good listener and I love the variety in Ladybug.
Oh, and see the little hand waving in the center of this shot? That's my little nursling, enjoying storytime on another whole level.

Happy weekend! We are off to "Camp Reach for the Stars," a camp for cancer kids and their families. We've never been before and don't know what to expect, but it's supposed to be really nice. See you Monday!

Oh have a great weekend!I think that it is great to get away. I love the pic, as you know well they are small for such a short time. It seems like you truly relish it.

What books they choose! My 11 yo and I are so different that it can be a challenge to find something we both enjoy. It is always interesting to see what he will pick.

Hope your family has fun this weekend. Kristin

We all love "The bear hunt"! When I still did home daycare it was always a crowd pleaser!
I love "Guess how much I love you" a lot as well. Love the drawings of the little rabbit feet...First time I read it I cried.
Have a great weekend!

Ladybug magazine is still a favorite for my six year old and my two year old loves reading Babybug. They both think it's great fun to receive mail addressed just to them.

We LOVE the bear hunt book, too. O likes to pretend that she's in a cave looking for bears, and a few days ago she ran to me saying she was scared because there was a bear outside her window :) Love the picture, btw.

my son loves those ladybugs, too, and we usually have to read them cover to cover as soon as they come in the mail, and the old ones on the shelf get looked at often. hope you and your family enjoyed the weekend!

Oh, I also have a copy of Guess how much I love you. I bought one for myself and I gave one as a present to a grown up person. He loved it!
