Dieter and I made a leaf crown on Sunday while the baby napped. It's nice that even on these hectic Sundays during the school year we can usually find a few minutes for fun.
First we gathered the leaves. He was very interested in making pom poms from them (he is fascinated with cheerleaders ever since his daddy took him to a high school football game).
Then I strung them together. At first I was just poking the stem through the base of each leaf, but they fall apart that way. Here is what I found when I checked the book Earthways: remove the stem from the leaf. Overlap two leaves, then use the stem to "pin" them together horizontally, in and out. It worked much better.
Here he is with the crown. It was a short lived pleasure. The temptation to destroy it was just too great.
But so cute while it lasted.

Clever idea to use the stems...we'll have to wait for a dry day to try it out...
Pretty pretty leaves!
Looks like fun! I never knew that trick about the stems, I'll have to give it a try. I used to make what end up like dolmades with the leaves, wrapping them like a little package around a pine cone or something and using the stem to tie them shut...
That is great. We needs to go lead hunting now.
that is certainly cute! what lucky little boys you have to have such a creative and thoughtful mommy!
WONDERFUL idea! reminds me of your summer solac post (or called something like that)
Very clever trick with the stems! And he looks gorgeous.
RE: Your last post - I love your green velvet couch. Its looks so inviting. I bet there is a little 'couch nursey' going on there!
