Leaf Rubbings

In the continuing vein of keeping things simple, lately we've been making leaf rubbings as a fun after work project for me and the boys. Today, Faith joined us too. No wonder--what a fun project it is! It had been years and years since I had made a rubbing of anything and I had forgotten how delicious it is to see the image appear on your paper. Even Dieter, who is not an art boy, made a few rubbings.
The Stockmar block shaped crayons are wonderful for this project. Just hold them by their sides and color with the edge. The color lays down nice and easy and vibrant.

Baby Rainer made a rubbing too (sort of)!
I love the way it looks to make several leaves side by side in different colors. Very fallish. (Yes, we were eating chips and guacamole and tomatoes as we worked).

Some we cut out and taped in the window. I love love love this sort of simple seasonal display. What will I do when my children are no longer young but I still want to tape up leaf rubbings? Truly, that is something to ponder.
But for now the littles and I will immerse ourselves in the pure pleasure of it.

As we were walking to school this morning I said to my babes,"on the way home, let's collect some leaves for rubbing"
This is one of my favorite activities with them.I love how you stuck them all to the window.I am going to have to steal that idea:0)

Those turned out fantastic! I love making rubbings, I have many fond memories of making brass rubbings at churches and cathedrals when I was younger, so cool!

How awesome, we're doing this one today for our playgroup - we melted crayon cakes for this one, so I'm looking forward to how the swirls of color play out.

love leaf rubbings too! So simple and effective!

Still do it anyway even if they are older, why not I say?

I love how you hung them. I'm thinking I'll try attaching some to foamcore board to make a mobile. Oooh, sounds like a date with my grandbabies again.
