Coming Along Slowly . . .

It's a struggle, a struggle I tell you, but I'm gradually working a bit of crafting time into some of my evenings. I'm just not a night crafter, that's for sure, but then I think, if I can go online at night and while away the hours, why not use that time productively and sew, which is something I love to do and is way more virtuous?
But before exploring that conundrum, here are the coasters I've been working on for Christmas gifts. I'm planning on making several sets. The tutorial for these is here. I've been wanting to try these coasters for a very long time. But cutting all the little squares (not just for the patchwork, but also the linen fronts, the backs, and the batting) took forever and was not particularly fun. Now that I am onto the sewing part, it's going much faster and is much more pleasurable.
I don't have any furniture I can't set a drink on, and I suspect others are in a similar situation, but I like the idea of having these little coasters just to catch condensation or to nestle my coffee on. I like a bit of pretty thrown into everyday.
And they're reversible!

As for the night crafting, I just try to focus on the positive: an opportunity to craft, even if I'm tired and the light is poor (which it is in my studio). This week, I'll take a break from coasters and do some birthday crafting for Rainer. I want to make at least a birthday bunting and his crown of course (because he didn't have one last year).

They're lovely and really a nice Christmas gift. I think I'll make some myself too!
Thanks so much for the inspiration!

They look great, some really nice colours and patterns. I am sure they will make perfect Christmas gifts for friends and relatives alike.

I agree with you that proble few of us have furniture that would matter if we set a glass on it but I also agree with the pretty "homemade" thrown into everyday. So beautiful.

LOVE them. I should make some of these for gifts this year too, brilliant idea. I made some for my husband for Christmas last year to use on his grandfather's desk, which does get water stains/rings easily, so that's been nice... but I find especially in the summer months of iced beverages these are nice almost anywhere, even if you don't have to "protect" the furniture!! beautiful!
