Homemade Rubber Stamps

I can't claim any originality here--I saw the idea here on Flickr. The thing that really inspired me was the use of cookie cutters for the shapes; since I can't draw at all, I have to trace around something. I happen to have a set of autumn mini-cookie cutters, so I jumped at the chance to make stamps from them. You can use craft foam, but I didn't have that, but I remembered that I have this rubber stamping material from a kit purchased through Hearth Song years ago. So I just cut into it with the cookie cutters and finished with a craft knife. After that, just apply your shapes to some kind of backing.
I used a wooden block, a scrap of wood, and a plastic tile that came with the original kit. Voila!
They have sort of a rough, rustic look, which I like, although I daresay they'd look a little nicer with just the adult "helping" rather than the child. This is with the child. I'm anxious to try them on my own. We use regular markers to ink up the stamps. Oh, and in checking Hearth Song to see if they still carry the "make your own stamps" kit (they don't) I came across this awesome set of architectural stamps. Man, that looks fun. I want it!
