Happy Birthday to Gam!

Friday my mom turned 73. Dieter and Rainer and I whipped up this little "portable party" for her and we all (save two) took it down and enjoyed cake and presents with her and my dad. The cake was orange flavored--I made it the same way as this one--it was so delicious, and perfect for an afternoon birthday celebration--not too heavy.
The boys marked on muslin with fabric markers, then I got to work. Rainer's became a pillow, Deiter's became a bookmark. I also threw in one of the pears as you can see.
That trim on the pillow is newly thrifted and I love it. Oh, and I learned on this pillow to make the fabric strips wider next time so they show more. I'm making a mental note on that one.
Here's the back of the bookmark. Happy birthday, Gam!

I'm off to work this morning. Summer is officially over for me. I'm not sure what will become of my blog. In the past I've gotten up early on school mornings to write blog posts, but that cuts into my sleep. I may do that, or I may cut back. We'll have to see. Happy Monday!

I think I would love pillows made from my grandchildren's artwork. What a 'grand' idea. Thank you for sharing a great idea.

I love how you used all the trim from our thrifting. Very fun. Hope you are having a great first day back or at least not a bad first day back!

The cake looks delicious and the gifts~ PRECIOUS!! Your Mom must have loved her party!

Maybe you could do a 'weekly highlights' post once a week on your blog or something like that...I am one of those~ if I don't get all of my rest, I am very grumpy! :) So I totally understand.

You've just given me a great idea for a birthday gift for my son in Taiwan. Actually, it's a mix from you and Amanda. I think I'll ask the family members to each draw a patch that I can embroider and quilt into a pillow. Son #2 will love it since it's heartfelt from his whole family. Thank you.
