Getting Outdoors with the Little Ones

I was looking at some posts from a year ago and I realized that I've been having the same thoughts as last year-- about the importance of getting outside for our Saturday morning hike and how easy it is to let that fall away, but how good it is for our family when we make it a priority.
This Saturday we did make it a priority and were out the door by 7:30 (I did the Saturday morning grocery shopping at 6:15!). It was fantastic to be outside and walking. Dieter wanted to ride in the Ergo and I loved having him on my back. Ken carried Rainer in the backpack. It was just a simple nature trail with a little creek, but our boys love it so. I loved it too--it helps me get my thoughts in order.
So we're recommitting to the Saturday morning hike routine once again.
We have an abundance of home grown peaches. In addition to making jam, I made this peach cobbler Sunday. The crust was fine, but I hated the way the peaches cooked up. Not sure what went wrong--they turned kind of brown and yucky. But I thought I'd post it anyway because look at that recently thrifted Marimekko placemat! Love it.

Nice thought. Autumn is my favorite time for getting out in the woods in Vermont.

We pick up the Saturday morning hiking routine again in the Fall. It is so wonderful to get out and enjoy the leaves turning and the crisp air.

sometimes it doesn't matter much how it looks in the end...how did it taste?!?!
Zoe would probably be all for an early morning routine, but Steve and I are NOT morning people at all...she comes crawling in our bed around 7:30 on Sat. and Sun. and we both moan a little at the thought of getting up already! I do wish I could be a morning person...I get nothing really done late at night.

i would quite happily be out and about at that time as the boys are always up - Hub I'm not so sure. It looks like a lovely place

It's truly the best time of day to be out walking isn't it? Everything is that much more fresh and alive and sometimes, if you're lucky enough, it can feel like your own private place.

Wow, out the door so early is impressive. Nothing happens at our house until at least 10:30 at the weekend! Rainer looks like a completely new boy since a few months back!

Out by 7.30? Oh you are specially good!
I am currently loving the walks to and from school. It's such a nice time to chat with the children and just listen to their happy chatter with each other too.

The peach cobbler looks fab!

Hello, I love reading your blog, but don't have one myself. I live in Santa Barbara and was wondering if this spot is around here? It looks beautiful!

Hi Michelle. I'm so glad you're enjoying the blog! This little trail is just above Ojai--it's sweet and simple, not very remote.
