Repurposing Challenge

Linaloo is hosting a "repurposing challenge" over at her site right now, with the purpose of using thrifted fabric to make clothing items in July. Although I didn't technically make these pants in July (I made them in June), she has encouraged me to go ahead and post them.
These pants are the Amy Butler lounge pants that absolutely everyone with a blog has made now. I've made them before in store-bought flannel, but I was needing a lightweight pair for summer, and this is the first time I've used a thrifted sheet for anything. I found the sheet a little bit wonky to work with (didn't lay nice and flat for cutting) but I just proceeded on, telling myself, "it's a pair of pants, not rocket science") and indeed, they turned out okay, despite my difficulties. One change I do make to the pattern is to use a piece of elastic in the waistband, and attach the drawstring pieces to that. It's comfortable and it holds the pants up better, I think.
The result? Loungey, summery goodness.

Very cool - in more ways than one!

They look fab Mary Beth. The yellow is particularly stunning! Isn't sad that most of us sleep on plain, unintersting sheets these days?

I love the pattern and agree with Lina. Why do we buy such boring sheets?

I haven't made a pair yet ;) though I did gaze lovingly at the pattern when I had the book checked out from the library, and someday when I have enough yardage of something other than canvas...maybe I need to go thrifting!

They look great! Really lovely fabric and I love the detail at the cuff. I have had the book for ages and I look at it often but have not made anything.

I have made some thrifted-sheet-pants for Minnie and I but out of a made up pattern (you know, the one where you lay out a pair of your PJs and cut around them). Minnie's are great and she loves them. Mine have enough room for the whole family so they need a little taking in...

you are not the last person to make these! I just bought some bed sheets last week and intend to craft some of these lounge pants myself. Yours are so lovely! Thanks for sharing.
