New Bag

Finally, I made myself a new bag. Can you believe I've been carrying this bag almost nonstop since I made it? I like it and everything, but that's a long time. I definitely needed freshening up for summer. This new bag is the Amy Butler Swing Bag. The outer fabric is by Alexander Henry;
The lining is Amy Butler. That contrasting pocket is my own addition from a scrap. I love it because I partitioned it off so it would hold my cell phone on one side. Gotta have a cell phone pocket. What is different about this bag is that it is interfaced with sturdy canvas. No more floppy bags! I've done just fine with my old (non-interfaced) floppy bag, but the stiffness definitely makes this one sleeker. Not that I enjoyed the extra step of sewing in the canvas, but it was worth it in the end. I've been carrying it around town as my regular purse, with wallet, keys, Envirosax, and phone. But it's big enough to be versitile: the real test--
. . . first beach trip of the season . . .
second beach trip of the season (today). Success!

Lovely bag - gorgeous fabrics and I love the added pocket. Saves searching for your cell phone as you know where it is. Mine is this monent covered in pasta sauce from Minnie's lunch. She kindly found it and returned it to me with her grubby little fingers!

I love that bag & such pretty fabric combinations! I've kind of been on the lookout for some new bag patterns to try - something other than a basic tote! - and that one looks perfect! Off now to see if I can find a supplier in the UK...

I love the handbag...inspiring...I just made a skirt in that fabric for a girlfriend and I have a few big size scraps left...hmmm, perhaps a there is a birdseed tote in my future. Have fun at the beach!

Nice job!! I love the addition of the pocket inside. I made the same bag with another Alexander Henry fabric last fall. I too love the thickness that the canvas adds. The best part is that someone gave me a big bag of really ugly upholstery fabric...and I just substitute that for the cotton duck. I liked this bag so much I made another for my sister.

Enjoy your bag :)

Your bag is beautiful - I love the Amy Butler fabric - I haven't bought anything from the Midwest range yet, so I am very envious!

And I spot Maile Meloy in the beach bag - which one are you reading? - I don't recognise the cover. x
