On Saturday, my beautiful girl turned fifteen years old. I can't believe how the years have flown! It was a whirlwind of activity getting ready on Saturday. I wanted it to be a special day for her, but had been so busy during the week, with a class I attended, and starting Rainer's new phase of chemo, that I hadn't gotten much done ahead of time.
I spent all day rushing around, going to the store, buying presents, cooking her meal (same meal as last year), baking her cake, and making the crafts I wanted to have for her. Thank goodness I have such a supportive husband who took the boys almost all day so I could get ready. Here is her birthday ring--it's just a decoration for the birthday girl, with the ribbons she chose herself. I first saw one on Uncommon Grace, and later found that the craft comes from the Birthday Book. It's a simple decoration, but pretty, I think. She liked it.
Faith and I had talked well ahead of time about her having a crown (after the success of Dieter's). It's my one chance to make a girl crown. She chose the ribbons and the color scheme. The rest was a surprise. I love how this turned out and was also inspired to make the little cake-topper girl to go with it. I didn't even know I was going to make her until the night before, but I couldn't get this out of my head, so I went for it. So glad I did--she loved it.
The cake was also a big success--which is so satisfying since she's a picky eater. I made a vanilla cake from mix, added this frosting and used raspberry jam as a filling between the layers. It was girly and pretty and everyone ate it up.
I'm so fortunate to have a fun loving, down to earth girl. She was so pleased with all of it and that made all my work totally worthwhile. Happy birthday Faith!
