We're Home!

We finally got discharged Monday afternoon and we're happily home. Or Rainer is anyway. I was off to work yesterday, trying to get caught up and finish out the last week of school before summer break. Rainer is still on IV antibiotics but now only once a day, which his home care nurse administers. He's in good spirits and very happy to be home.
I had asked Ken to pick the zucchini while I was away--so it wouldn't get too large. That's when I start wasting zucchini--I just like the young tender ones. These look just right to me.
After work, I just hung out with Rainer outside and we both enjoyed that. Ken and Dieter went to our local video store. They're going out of business and selling off all the videos. They bought Spot and Winnie the Pooh. Ken asked them, "what did you in?" They said it was Netflix. I guess the local video stores are going to be a thing of the past soon. It's sort of sad. But I don't feel bad about our Netflix subscription. How many times have you stood around at the video store, waiting to talk to a human, just to ask "is such and such movie in right now" and "what section is it in?" I always wondered why the video stores didn't use technology to their advantage? Netflix does it so well.

Mostly right now I'm feeling rather depleted. After several nights of poor sleep in the hospital, and little piles of clutter everywhere, not getting a weekend at home, not getting any crafting or creative time, I'm just not my usual peppy self. Plus, I worry. After this second long hospitalization, the reality of having a child with cancer is sinking in. I do have a bit of a spark, though. I ordered the book The Seven O'Clock Bedtime and it came yesterday. I'm very enthused about the concept and can't wait to read it. It's going in my work bag for my lunchtime reading.
And now just 3 more days until summer vacation. Hooray!

Three more days until summer vacation!!! You lucky duck. I still have two more weeks until school lets out. I'm glad to hear that Rainer is home and doing well. Your zucchini is looking beautiful, I might just have to pick some up at the market tomorrow and make zucchini bread.

yay, you're home!
glad to hear it. we usually get movies from the library or the red box kiosks. i was thinking this would probably affect the video places. oh well, life goes on, i guess. ;)

we have always done an early bedtime with a good routine - love it.
good luck with that!

Hooray!

Mighty fine-lookin' zucchini there. We had one year where they cross-pollinated with the pumpkins and we had about 40 watermelon-sized zucchini. My mom shredded them all and made a freezer full of zucchini bread that lasted for months!

It is amazing how refreshing it is to have Mom and Dad time after the kids go to bed! You are going to love it.

Rats! I actually have my copy of The Seven O'Clock Bedtime in my "give to Goodwill" pile. I could have sent mine to you.

Glad you are home and your zucchini look delicious!

I'm so glad you are home! I hope you all get some time to rest and rejuvenate.

I'm also a big proponent of an early bedtime for young children. While my little one used to struggle and fight when we'd try to put him to bed at 8 or later, now he peacefully goes to bed at 6:30 or 7. It's amazing! It took us a long time to get there, though, and he still wakes up a few times a night :)

Glad to hear you are home... and that there are only 3 more days until summer vacation! The book you ordered sounds interesting. We usually have our kids in bed by 8:00. Praying for strength and a renewed energy for you and and your family.

I am glad to hear that Rainer is home from the hospital. I guess you all have to be troopers. I know that you are taking great care of him and I hope that you are doing the same for yourself.

I must speak up for independent video stores because I own one! Netflix is to us what Walmart is to small independent stores across the country. I have changed many things to keep my business going and offer great customer service. My business is growing slowly but surely. I am a small LOCAL business that appreciates every customer! Money stays in the community instead of going to a mega corporation.

I'm so glad you're off for summer soon. You deserve a "vacation!" And I'm so glad little Rainer is back home. I am keeping you both in my prayers. I can't imagine being in your situation and admire your strength and positive attitude so much. Hang in there, Mary Beth!!!

Glad to hear you are home now with your sweet little guy. I hope you are able to take lots of time for yourself once the holidays begin. And I can't believe your zucchini is so huge already! Our haven't even flowered yet!

Welcome home, Rainer!

That zucchini looks yummy!

The new $1 dvd kiosks everywhere were one surprise when we were back in the US last month - hadn't seen those at all a year ago. Won't be long before the kiosks cut the dvds on demand so you can always get what you're looking for, then the dvds self-destruct in a day or 2.

glad to hear you are home. i hope you and your family get a chance to get back into your routine soon. i'm always amazed to read about all that you accomplish!

i know we should support local stores, but the late fees killed me! besides, netflix is kinda local here (near silicon valley).

also a big fan of 7pm bedtime here. good luck with that!
