Family Art Night

I was inspired by The Creative Family to have our first Family Art Night this past weekend. It was thrown together more or less at the last minute, which, believe me, was the ONLY way that it was going to happen, and I'm so glad I just went with it--no preparation and all--because it meant so much to Dieter, more than I or he can say, I think. What a nice chance to spend relaxed time together when so much attention has been paid to the baby lately and so much stress is underlying. This was just a chance to mellow out to the soothing sight and motion of our brushes on paper. It wasn't exactly what I had hoped for: Rainer was asleep, that part was okay, but Faith too had already fallen asleep, and both of the teen boys were away. So it was just Dieter, Mommy, and Daddy. Next time I'd love for the teens to join us. All I did was set out art supplies on the table--that's it--and we painted and crayoned. Well, there was one other advance preparation: the addition of homemade brownies seemed highly appropriate, it being a festive occasion and the weekend and all.
Dieter had a great time, we all did really, and the next day we had new art to decorate our window.
Thanks to all of you who commented and e-mailed me your opinions about comments. It really helped me clarify my thoughts on the matter. I love your comments, so keep them coming if you feel so inclined, and I will try to answer your questions in the comments section more often. It makes sense because then everyone can see the reply. Also, I really do like to reply to you individually as well, if Blogger provides me with your e-mail address, or I like to visit your blogs when time allows, so I'll be doing that occasionally too.

I like the art on the windows idea. You know us, we're always having a window covering issue.

I have been so into The Creative Family lately too. So many good ideas. I want my little ones to be budding artists as well!

Looks like your art night went beautifully...especially with the addition of brownies!!!! :) I think it turned out exactly how it should have, it was probably nice for Deiter to have some special time with both Mom and Dad. We sometimes have family art night and my children LOVE it. Sometimes we have classical music playing in the background too.

I like this idea and I am going to mention to my husband. I think it would be nice to do this. And art on the windows is nice too. Love the brownies too. :-) Who made the lovely butterfly?

I just caught up on your blog posts and wanted to tell you that you are an awesome blogger! (And, from what I see here, a most excellent mother.)

Mary Beth,
I'm so sorry! I just noticed that I misspelled Dieter. Ugh!

What a special parent-focused time that must have been for Dieter. And the paintings look so lovely!
