Charming Handbag

I finally got around to making the "Charming Handbag" from Bend the Rules Sewing. I've been wanting to make it since last summer when the book came out. The one pictured in the book is so dang cute and I love the fabrics she uses. Mine? Not so much. I adore this green print fabric, but not for this project. To tell the truth, I started out to use this print as the lining. The outside was going to be corduroy with an embroidered pocket. I crazily switched it around mid-project. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I'm not loving it.
On the upside, this bag has a cute shape and clever handles that thread through casings on the inside of the bag. On the downside, it's very small and I'm not loving my fabric choices in the end. Still, this is much chic-er and a nice change of pace from my usual shapeless bag. Or, I may just pass it on to Faith who thinks it's pretty great.

you can never have to many handbags, so use it for a while and move on. We all love it and so will everyone else. You could make them in holiday colors to use just for a month or so. 4th of july would be cute and festive. I can not sew so I think its great

It looks just lovely even if you think otherwise. The fabric is great, but maybe not for a handbag...I could see it as a cute skirt or a little ones dress....ohhhh maybe a gardening apron? It reminds me of a garden.

I've been behind on reading blogs but I love all the stuff you've been doing - the frogs, the pants, and the bag. I made that same bag awhile ago and I didn't like mine too much either. Yours, however, I think looks great!

I'm still praying for little Rainer every day.

That is a gorgeous handbag and the fabric is perfect.
I know what you mean though, sometimes you go with something and it doesn't turn out how you thought - I hate when that happens to me.
I'm hating all my fabric just now and thinking I should sell it all on ebay and buy new fabric!

Hey there-I found your blog yesterday, and it has been on my mind all day. I have to commend you for taking some terrifying news and living with it. Really living, not dwelling, not shying away in fear. You are reading, cooking, crafting, living, enjoying your family. This is such courage...thank you for sharing. You are an inspiration. AND...I LOVE THE BAG!

I actually love it. The fabric looks great and your handles look much better than mine did when I made this.

I'm surprised to hear you say you don't like it, although maybe it just didn't come out as envisioned.... but I love it! I love the fabric, so cute!

I think it's darling! I have had that on my list to do since I bought the book. So far, all I have managed to do was a few scalloped blankets.
