Back from the Hospital

Rainer had a semi-unexpected hospital admission last night. He got some much needed red blood cells and platelets and now we're home. As luck would have it, one of his home nurses happened to be working in the hospital yesterday, so she was his nurse--sweet! We actually thought he'd need a transfusion on Monday. I waited around all day, it seemed, on pins and needles waiting for his lab results, and it turned out he didn't need it Monday. So yesterday I tried to proceed with the day sort of normally, and we ended up having to go in. I have this notion that I'll put together a hospital bag for him to have at the ready, but so far that hasn't happened. I like him to have some mama-made items with him when he goes in, his quilt, his bunny, so I packed those yesterday on our way out the door and carelessly forgot to cap his apple juice ba-ba and juice got all over everything. Big bummer. His quilt in particular was soaked. Nonetheless, his short stay went well and we're home today. He's having some more nausea then he's had in the past so I'm mostly just holding him, walking him around the yard, doing the mama thing. Right now he's napping.
I figured last night that a hospital admission justifies me falling off the no-sweets wagon, so I ate sweets. Yeah. I've been sticking to my no-desserts on weekdays pretty well, but it's hard. Last night was the first real cheat, but there have been other things, like eating cereal or the baby's "bee crackers" that constitute sort of cheating in my mind. The main thing I've noticed is the stress causes me to want sugar--I'm a little bit surprised by that. But when Rainer's lab values came in unexpectedly low on Wednesday, man, I was really craving something. Anyway, I'm going to have my weekend off as planned then just press on. Press on--that's the only thing to do. And now, with the baby sleeping, I must shut down the computer and get in a little sewing time. Happy Friday!

You're doing such a great great job being Rainer's mama and doing the 'mama-thing'! I have so much appreciation for you that you keep on going and care about him having some home(made) stuf with him in hospital. that's no easy thing when there's a lot of stress going on...Wishing you lots and lots of strengt to go on! Did you manage to sew anything in that short spare time?

you're in my thoughts...
xx

I think I survived all of Nathan's back issues with the same philosophy. You just have to keep moving forward.

Poor baby.

Do they give them anything for the nausea when they are that small?

Sarah--yes, he has a good anti-nausea drug that he uses--I gave him some this morning and now he's resting comfortably, I think. :)

So sorry to hear about Rainer's hospital visit. I completely understand you craving for sweets - I am definitely an emotional eater and I'm sure it must be difficult with so much stress right now. I'm sure just being a good mama to Rainer is what's most important and you're definitely doing that.

check out my sons post today on my blog, it will fill you in more on his health issue, besides what we emailed the other day, but anyway, what I was going to say was a few times we had one of our in home RNs at the ER taking care of Kyler before also. Its so nice. probably nicer for us moms than the litttle ones. hehe HUGS!

I think you're doing a wonderful job, I'd be such a mess going through all that you are. Sweets are definitely justified.

Have a wonderful weekend, I hope the weather is lovely where you are!

Poor precious Rainer...I don't like this one bit. Sweets are very good for Mothers...I think that is a fact, not an opinion :)
Sanity is worth a lot in my family and it is always good for this Mommy (meaning me) to have a bit of chocolate in the afternoons. My husband and children are very happy when I've had my chocolate.
I can't wait to see what you have been sewing. Hope sweet Rainer is feeling better and that you have a nice, relaxing, family fun weekend.

Oh honey, we all fall off the wagon every once in a while, and I think you much deserved your little fall. So sorry about another hospital trip....that brave little guy is so strong and lucky to have you!

Two steps forward, one step back. You're still moving forward, albeit a bit slower than you'd wish. Hugs, ~Amy

Hi there...I've never done this before-as in- I've never posted on a complete strangers blog! A friend of mine came across your blog and emailed it to me. My son also has been diagnosed with ALL, only it looks like about six months earlier. His name is Charlie and he was diagnosed in July of last year. Our webiste is www.allinthefight.blogspot.com or www.caringbridge.org/visit/charliekennedy . I'd love to talk with you some time, my email address is on the web page if you feel inclined. It's great to find another person going through the same trials with the same disease!
Hope to hear from you soon...

Hope you got to get some sewing done. It helps me de-stress especially hand work.
You seem like such a sweet and strong mom. I think your Moving Forward outlook is spot on....I'll be saying more prayers for you all.

You certainly are doing a great job at "the mama thing". I think you definitley "deserve" a little dark chocolate. I hope sewing was a little break from reality for you.

Hugs to you and your sweet little boy- he is just so adorable and precious-(do I say how cute he is every time I post?- well I mean it every time!)I'd say some sweets to get you through are not such a bad thing. still sending lots of warm thoughts to you and your little guy.
