At Last

Seriously, I must be the last person in the universe to try freezer paper stenciling. I've been meaning to try this craft since nice Amy of Gift of Green kindly sent me a roll of freezer paper (thank you Amy!). I don't know exactly why I never got around to stenciling anything but I think mostly I was overthinking the process too much. I wasn't sure how I'd trace the image onto the freezer paper, was it thin enough to see through, that sort of thing.
Receiving The Creative Family spurred me along (it has very clear instructions for this) and I finally made the boy these onesies. The blue leaf on the left is from the book (I simply lay the paper onto it and traced with a pen) and the red horse on the right is from my favorite cookie cutter. Easy. I just used cheap fabric paints from Joanne and so far so good. The blue leaf onesie has already been worn, washed and dried and as you can see it came out fine. I'd love to make more of these--I see how it is infectious--such an easy craft with satisfying results. I'll have to get more paints though, in more colors.

The baby is still using his fabric basket--also an idea from The Creative Family. You can see we set out the fabrics to be a little play scene for the wooden animals. Just as fun for me.

This morning my mom is coming over to help get me started on cleaning out Jacob's room--yippee!! When that sweet boy goes off to college in the fall, his room is going to become my craft studio! (It's not a normal room--it's narrow, no closet, and you have to walk through Faith's room to get to it--but nonetheless the thought of having my own space is a dream come true). So I'm off to nurse the baby some more and neaten up before my mom gets here. Happy Monday!

That fabric basket is a great idea for young ones - and when they are older you can put 2 bits of each fabric in and get them to match them by feel. Thanks for the reminder - I should do it!

No, no, I'M the last person to make these!!! They're still on my to do list - I was thinking they'd be perfect for Father's day. I have the freezer paper, but no fabric paint!

Wow, MB, those came out great! I have the Creative Family book too and it it's funny because it makes me feel all inspired and warm and love-y inside, while at the same time making me feel totally inadequate
(sp?) (I have serious issues!!!)! :) Have fun with your mom!

I think I am the last person. I had the freezer paper and then gave it away because I thought I wouldn't use it. Now I am waiting patiently for my copy of the book so I will have to get more freezer paper.

Those are great little t-shirts! Too cute. Here is a hint about freezer paper, too. You can run it through the printer if you cut it to the right size. I've used clip art to make freezer paper stencils with no tracing at all.

I am so envious of your soon-to-be craft room. My mom had my room turned into a Victorian B&B style guest room within weeks after me leaving for college. I was happy for her and didn't take it personally! so enjoy it :)

Just happened to find your blog and love it! And No you are not the last one to try this:) It has been in my little binder of things to do for the kids forever. Seeing it again has made me want to finally do it. And yeah a craft room, how I so badly want one! Good luck with your little one my thoughts are with you.
