Thinking About Valentines Day

Valentines day is almost upon us and I've hardly done anything. I love the holiday but real life gets in the way of all the little crafts I'd like to do. I did manage, yesterday afternoon, to finally hang these window hearts. I made these years ago and just get them out every year and hang them. It has worked wonderfully, but I really want to make a new batch--they're getting a little faded. Maybe this will be the year--who knows what the weekend holds.
The good news is that I have a three-day weekend coming up and a rare day to myself on Monday (everyone else will be in school!) I love these days and it will give me a chance to rush around and get some of these little projects done that I've been thinking about, some of which include
:: making little heart crayons for the toddlers.
:: making a papercut for Ken (I downloaded the kit from Angry Chicken last night and am very excited!)
:: little baked goods for the daycare ladies (and some work people?) wrapped in heart waxed paper
:: hand made Valentines for everyone
:: help Dieter make Valentines for his day care friends
:: and a new decoration (maybe this)(scroll down a little to the valentine chain)
There are always an abundance of ideas. Every year I look through this book for inspiration.
And I really wanted to make this doll for the boys but it wasn't meant to be. Maybe next year; I hope so. So cute, huh? This project is in Living Crafts magazine.

The biggest thing that is weighing on me right now is how to do our traditional trail of hearts. Last year I had a bad experience (you can read about it here, but it's pretty negative) and there are similar constraints this year. I wanted to revert the trail of hearts back to its sweet origins on the morning of Valentines day. But that has been vetoed--both Ben and Faith object--they want to be included even though they are big now. So we're looking at having another Valentine event very much not on Valentine's day--Ben won't be here at all on the closest weekend . . . I'm going to have to think this through some more. I love the sweetness of a simple Valentine surprising your loved one on a normal weekday, ya know? But in reality, we have a family that is not all together every day. Hmm.

Have a great weekend. And I wish lots of family time and happy Valentine crafting to you all. And Monday I will have a special treat for you, so stay tuned!

I so love Valentine's Day. Those hearts are so cool. If I don't make it to CA, I'm going to focus on having a Passion Woman Valentine's Day again!

my living crafts magazine didn't come early enough for me as well to get things done in it for vday. Although the first issue was wonderful with the felted wool hearts...so we made those to send out in cards to our homeschooling friends.
