Live Your Beautiful Life

A couple of weeks ago I was dropping Faith at an activity. She is 14 and a bunch of the girls were getting together at someone's house to watch a movie and eat pizza. Faith had spent some time putting together a cute outfit for the event and it included a dramatically tied head scarf. She really looked adorable and as I dropped her off I encouraged her to enjoy the gathering and not worry at all about what anyone might say about her outfit. She has a nice group of friends, mind you, but sometimes girls can be a little bit mean anyway, by dissing someone's outfit for example, and hurt feelings can ensue. I just encouraged her to go forward, love her looks and self confidence, and not worry if others did not like it. (Up through about fourth grade she was such an adventurous dresser, putting together outlandish combinations and doing her hair all crazy--I'm so glad I let her express herself in that way because I think it nurtured her free spirit and she is much more self confident than I was at her age).

But I was also thinking as I drove away that night that I really need to take the advice I gave her and apply it to myself. I too need a reminder sometimes just to go forward and live my beautiful life and not to get bogged down in negative thoughts about how I hate my mummy tummy for example (that's a thought I have embarrassingly often, I have to admit) or other negative thoughts I sometimes have. So lately I've been reminding myself, when a negative thought enters my mind, just nevermind, go forward, live life. And it's pretty much working, I must say. It's kind of cool.

It's Friday now. I like Fridays. Faith has a non-school day today so will be riding down with me for part of my commute and I'll drop her with my parents. We like these mornings when she gets to ride down with me. I'll be very busy with kids this weekend, and working on my blouse hopefully, and also trying to get ready for my San Diego trip which is this upcoming week. Plenty is planned, hopefully some will be accomplished. Happy weekend!

That's a great picture. You should frame it also. I remember toddler Faith as a tiny ball of insistent, self-will. She looks so beautiful and is so smart, I await the day she changes the world. (Maybe with a bold fashion statement!)

Yes, that is a very sweet picture. I have issue with the mummy tummy too, but I just try to remind myself that this tummy has grown two (so far) beautiful children for me so I ought to cut it some slack!
